I checked out the Flying Chancla today, thinking this would be my affordable Mexican restaurant in the area for good food. I bought the tamale plate; tamales, rice, and beans, which also includes lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole. Flavor was the same as any other Mexican restaurant.

So delicious! My kids had breakfast and they had caldo ready at 8am. Everything was hot and delicious. Everyone was nice and the prices are very reasonable.

I picked up Menudo and a Barbacoa taco on Sunday 30 minutes before closing. Staff was super nice and food was amazing. Hit the spot!

My co-worker and I stumbled upon this restaurant looking for another business. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back.

I really wanted to like this place. I think there’s a lot of potential with the theme but ultimately, the service was one step short of unfriendly and being greeted with a sign saying a refill on chips was going to cost extra just set the wrong tone from the start. They were out of Mexican coke so I settled for a can. The food wasn’t bad but wasn’t amazing like the reviews led me to believe (except the charro beans… those were really good).

Worst tampiqueña steak experience in Texas ever. Server cannot help it that the steak tasted and had consistency like it had been frozen. Steak came out red In color from some kind of seasoning or marinade, looked nothing like the menu picture or any steak prepared this way I have ever seen. Steak had to be ripped apart with the knife and did not slice. Steak was chewy and would not fall apart when chewed. The enchilada on the plate was great. The guacamole tasted of tin and was not fresh. The flying chancla needs a real spanking via grandmother’s super power chancla. Salsas were mediocre and tortillas tasted like flour only. Overall the worst Mexican lunch in San Antonio and surrounding area that I can remember. I would not spend money here and will not be able to go back. Chips were not fresh. The art on the walls are funny and awesome. Best part of the restaurant is the name and the art on The walls.

Wifey and I were excited to try out this new place. Interior is cute. Service is slow. On a not-so-busy Saturday afternoon, it took 25 minutes for an order. A bit too slow for us. Menu is vast and offers enough to please just about anyone. Typical San Antonio offerings, including north-of-the border fare such as “carne guisada”. I opted for the gorditas plate and esposa for the enchiladas verdes. The highlight here is the beans: simple yet delicious. The low is the rice: meh, blandish. The enchiladas and gorditas were fresh and flavorful, but no more so than what you can find at the 84,000 other Mexican restaurants in SA. I’ll give them another chance and perhaps to raise their score to 4 stars if the next offering really impresses me.

My wife and I were looking for a place for lunch and couldn’t pass up the flying chancla just based on the name. They did not disappoint I got the birria bowl and my wife got the table plate. Both of which were great!

I would be careful ordering takeout from this restaurant. They use styrofoam packaging and sometimes the food is way too hot for the packaging. This causes it to melt. This is a health hazard.
