Family owned and operated for over two decades, the Penrose Diner is a local tradition of South Philadelphia. Many of our loyal customers have grown up enjoying our made-from-scratch soups, savory pot pies, and freshly baked cakes. They know us by name — and we know them.
Over the years, the secret has gotten out: our food is the real deal. Unlike most diners, where food is often a microwaved afterthought, we make our menu fresh, from scratch, and we source local ingredients whenever we can.
We care about food here!
Serving American standards for more than 50 years, this local standby is open 24 hours on weekends. Based on 4 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.4 stars. Price $

An enjoyable dinner at the diner. An extensive menu with daily specials. The tuna melt, waffle and cheese steak were tasty and exactly what we expected. The place was packed on a Tuesday night. The staff were friendly and efficient. A reliable establishment!!!

We were so happy to find good breakfast in Philly. The service was 10/10. Anna Marie was our waitress’ name. She checked on us regularly and got our food order in quick. The food came out freakishly fast and fresh!

Maryanne was byfar the most amazing server we ever had! She was so kind and sweet. We came from out of state and was only in Philly for two days, but because of her, we chose this diner two days in a row to start our day at!! This will be our forever go to spot whenever we come back to visit!!

I’ve been wanting to eat here for many years. Yesterday on my way to South Jersey I did it. I was greeted warmly and sat in a both. Lori was my server. She gets 5 stars!! I ordered the Lox platter. It was phenomenal! I live in Reading. I will be eating here again ASAP!!

Great service and excellent food. My favorite is the buffalo chicken cheesesteak with extra crispy fries. Delightful diner. Homemade desserts case as you walk in is full of delicious treats. My absolute favorite dessert has not returned since the pandemic. Hoping the individual lemon meringue pie will return soon.

Up to date modern dinner. Great place to get breakfast and lunch. Like any diner, a lot on the menu and have specials. I had the Ruben sandwich and my friend had the half rack of ribs. It was all delicious and a great portion too. Not too much but not too little either. The waitress was on top of it and stopped by at the right times.

My girlfriend and I stopped at Penrose Diner on 1st April for breakfast, walked past it the day before on my way to the stadium and vowed to go for breakfast: best choice I could make! We walk in and they welcome us with a smile, Donna the waitress was so kind, a really good person. My girlfriend had the pancakes which were the best we’ve ever had, we couldn’t believe how delicious they were, I had the bacon and eggs, the bacon was crispy and good and the eggs were outstanding! The place is what I call “the classic American place”: absolutely beautiful. I drank the best American coffee of my life (and I say this as an Italian lover of espresso coffee). They were also displaying the Sixers game from the night before, which was great. The service was very quick in the 30 minutes we had breakfast, everything was perfect. In this place you can breathe a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and you understand that it is busy with many locals because the waitresses know all the names and this shows how this place is loved by the people, and they are right. That day was my birthday and I was very happy to celebrate my breakfast in this place, a beautiful memory that I will always carry with me. Absolutely recommended, if you are in Philly stop by, you won’t regret it.
