Met a local Chinese Aunty on the bus and after a bit of friendly chit chat, she highly recommended Hop Lee Restaurant in Chinatown.

Authentic old school Cantonese style food! My Chinese family and I enjoyed a private event here with exceptional flavors and excellent service. Everything was prepared perfectly, the food is high quality. The Cantonese fried lobster fried with egg and pork was my favorite, the beef tenderloin with veggies were also good. The walnut shrimp and friend fish filet were impressive. Come here for authentic food!

Great spot for old school classic Cantonese food! With all the nouveau Chinese spots mushrooming around town, it’s comforting to come back to one’s roots sometimes. I appreciate the efficient service, the portions and quality.

My Partner and I were walking through Chinatown after a day of sightseeing in NYC and found this gem. Our meal was amazing. They really know how to prepare delicious, authentic Chinese food, and I found my new favorite beer. The service was fast, the food was hot and everyone on the team could not have been nicer. Make this a culinary stop on your next visit to Manhattan.

Had dinner there with friends who knew the owner and the food well. We had a 40min long wait on a Saturday night during the lunar new year celebrations but it was worth it. Great razor clams, great snow peas, great noodles and pork. Everything tasted very fresh and well seasoned. It is packed inside during dinner so those looking for vast personal space during COVID peaks should do lunch instead.

Excellent lunch special til 4pm Monday to Friday, which comes with soup and an entree. I also like that the wait staff here is quite friendly. First visit had the Szechuan beef (pretty good). Second visit had the vermicelli noodle with Chinese bacon (thin clear noodle with pork belly and assorted Chinese sausages, mushroom, and cabbage; good novelty to order once in a while, make sure to add hot sauce and or chili oil). 1/10/22: Had the Salt and pepper pork chop (excellent, maybe the best dish yet) and the beef with bitter melon (was good but I think it’s too much to eat on ones own; this is a dish to share because the bitter melon is very bitter and one can only eat so much). 1/18/22 visit: Had the shrimp with vegetable over rice (shrimp and Chinese broccoli in white sauce, not that flavorful but fresh) and the fresh shredded pork with hot pepper (pork with green and red bell pepper, not spicy at all, next time ask for chilies).

Food was delicious or was it because of the bill!? Will be back for sure. Waiter was unintentionally funny…. Walking up to us” you’re ordering 1 chicken, 1 pork, 1 beef, 1 fish dish?” When we ordered 2 pork dishes first.. he was like – “2x PORK DISHES!!?, you know they’re the same? Peking Pork, Pepper pork!?“—-Now go check out Uncle Roger on YouTube .. “Haiyaa” $40 for 4 people..”Not Bad”
