I have visited The Terrace Tavern occasionally for decades, but this was my first visit to the outdoor Backyard Bar. Service was a bit spotty and could have been a bit more attentive, but what was lacking in attentiveness was definitely made-up for in seemingly genuine friendliness. A good time was had imbibing adult beverages, enjoying tasty and very reasonably priced happy food and listening to live music. It was an enjoyable visit.

These are the best steamed clams I’ve ever had. So garlicky and delicious. The peel and eat shrimp was great too

Great happy hour, $1 wings, $3 domestic beers. The bar tenders were great! Very friendly, punctual and attentive. The wings were ok…id recommend requesting they be fried hard. The bathrooms were fairly small considering the size of the place. I’d think on a busy weekend night…there would be lines to use the head. The bar is fairly standard. No jukebox or darts, but its still nice. The new outdoor dining area is very nice! Its almost like a separate place. Well definitely go back. They sell t shirts too. I bought the one that actually says Long Beach Island NJ on it. The newest design doesnt include that detail.

Very good place. Steamed clams were yummy. Burger was average. Fried calamari was average. Atmosphere was fun. Menu options good. Surprisingly good selection of wines by the glass and bottle. I would definitely stop by again. A bit more pricey than I expected having eaten out of a cardboard box. Kid friendly in the indoor section.

Been going here for over 18 years under multiple owners – current owners redecorated, so they get 4 stars for atmosphere. Everything else has gone WAY down hill – they used to have great steam pots with lots of selections, including queen crab (which I had never heard of prior). These days however, the pots are over cooked, pre-measured, and stingy on the top items (crabs, lobster). The attached photo was $108 for ONE king crab leg. Ridiculous. The pot should contain kielbasa, corn, potatoes, clams, mussels, shrimp and one/two top item choices. I ordered an extra kielbasa sausage as a previous experience left me disappointed. Instead this pot had no kielbasa (which affected the taste, making it bland) and only one crab leg (not even a cluster). Garlic bread was a surprise, but whatever. When I said something about the missing kielbasa, the bartender said everything was premeasured and the kitchen staff was slammed, so he comp’ed us a couple of beers. Highly disappointed with the current ownership – I understand shore prices and all that during the season, but this was just insane for the price. While the service was good, the food and how it’s prepared is not value for money. Won’t return and I advise you all to go elsewhere on the island.

I just don’t get it. Other than location, decor and good drinks, the food is at best fair. People rave about it and I try it every year, and the same result, even with different owners. Burgers are too bready, food is really nothing more than diner grade, with 5 star prices. Fortunately had a sweet server named Lainey who was very nice and efficient.

Overall a good experience. We were outside for dinner. Completely shaded and felt cool especially with the heat we were having. Waitress was very attentive to our needs. Very happy they had the Downeast cider, one of my favorites. Food was good but we felt it was overpriced. Over 300 for party of 8 with two kids ordering kid meals and one two people splitting a meal.

My girlfriend and I took our pup to the Backyard yesterday. The music was great, all the staff were so nice and loved our pup as well. The food was absolutely delicious. Loved the backyard. Great set up and a fun laid back atmosphere!

Absolutely loved this place. It was our first time here and I took my son who is 13 years old. I ordered the steam pot not realizing just how much seafood it would come with. But it was a good thing that I did. He ordered bacon wrapped scallops but did not realize that they had what appeared to be caviar on top. But my son is always up for an adventure and to try new things. Unfortunately whatever it was was a fail. The “caviar” had an apple cider taste and it was very overpowering for him, even when I tried it I had to agree that it was a bit much. But the steampunk was so good and we were able to share that. And the scallops were cooked perfectly just unfortunately the taste of the flavoring they used was a bit much. Regardless I would still go back without question.
