Greek Souvlaki was founded in 1972 by Lee and Mary Paulos. They were the first to bring yeeros (gyros) to Utah. It was a family visit back to Greece that sparked the idea of a restaurant. Lee’s brother, Tasos Petropoulos, owned a small restaurant serving yeeros in Pireaus and Lee noticed that the tourists loved them. At first, Greek Souvlaki only sold three items: yeeros (gyro), souvlaki, and beefteki. The red sauce was the specialty sauce, in fact white sauce was added many years later! With Mary’s home made recipes and Lee’s inventive and creative mind, they added many other items to their menu. Tonight we ordered 2 chicken Souvlaki plates through the drive through. The food was old (probably reheated judging by the dark, mushy, shrivelled squash and onions), the pita bread was stale, and the service was less than friendly. Additionally we suspect she gave herself a tip, as our bill should not have been as high as it was. Even with taxes, 2 $13 meals don’t equal $35. However we did not receive a receipt. So there is no way to prove this. I do not believe we will be returning.

Originally, I didn’t have very high expectations, but was pleasantly surprised with their gyro salad and tzatziki dip (which I prefer on gyro salads). The produce was fresh, gyro could have been a bit more fresh, but all in all it was pretty good.

I actually really like this location. They have a fancy soda machine. Not sure if I go here at weird times, but it’s never been busy. Hope they stay open cause it’s a great place to grab a quick bite. Try the chicken soup; it’s great!

Everything we’ve had is delicious! I saw a billboard for Greek spaghetti, and hadn’t had spaghetti in awhile so we decided to give it a try. Meat sauce with a hint of cinnamon and plenty of parmesean! The first time I had it with gyro meat, this time I had it with a grilled chicken stick, which also had grilled zucchini rounds. You get plenty, so I took the rest home and ate it later. Lol We’ve also had the fish sandwich, gyro, and not-to-be-missed lemon chicken soup. I want to try the chicken stick with rice and lentil soup too.

This was the first time I came here but it won’t be the last. We each got gyros, pita dip platter, and the Greek honey donuts. Serving sizes were large, the food was excellent, service and speed were awesome and the restaurant was clean. Can’t ask for any more than that.
