There have been several changes in ownership at this location in the the past, and we are so happy with the current owners because they have finally gotten it right! We love this location of Golden Rule. They have our favorite ribs. Their blue plates are offered at lunch and dinner and the food tastes like delicious and comforting home cooking. My husband and I eat there several times a month.

I have never been disappointed by the quality of food at this location. And the variety cannot be beat. So much to choose from in addition to BBQ. Tonight’s fried catfish filet was perfect and I only wish my squash casserole tasted this good. A local gem.

I refuse to give a place a one out of five because if you are brave enough to start a business you should at least get a one for trying however my meal was disgusting and inedible. I try and find the best and accentuate the positive but the food I was served was awful. The brisket was a cold and chopped up mess of fat. Who the heck chops brisket? The Brunswick stew was burnt and at least three days old. Oh my gosh it had a big blob of something that I hope was a lump of chicken skin but it may have been cooked paper towel. The cole slaw was unmarinated cabbage with some poppy seeds thrown in. So disappointing. The manager was reasonable and did not ask me to pay for it so kudos to management but even then he did not acknowledge the disgusting nature of the food. I hope the food improves and I will attempt to try them again soon because if they don’t improve they will not be in business long.

It was OK. There are so many BBQ places and they’re all different. I like my meat cooked in the sauce, but that’s me.There was a good crowd and our server was awesome! Very generous portion of chicken on my sandwich. Priced reasonable. I would give 3 and half stars.

The sweet potato casserole is fantastic! I found the beef brisket bland. Didn’t taste like there was any seasoning on it and it was a little dry. I just covered it with barbecue sauce. I do recommend this restaurant. It has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and the servers are always very nice and helpful.

Never experienced more genuine, friendly, and passionate service… Hannah and the team truly enjoy what they do. We went yesterday (Friday about 6:30) and it was steady but not a long wait for food. The food was great. Wife had small pulled pork salad which was huge. I had the fried catfish. The complimentary corn biscuits were great. Looking forward to trying the BBQ next time.

I ordered carry-out and the service was reasonably quick, staff were friendly, and the food was delicious. I’ve been to other Golden Rule BBQ locations and consider their chopped pork sandwiches some of the best in Birmingham (some of my favorite, period), and this location also did not disappoint! The fried okra was also particularly delicious. Would certainly return to this location in the future!

We had them smoke a ham for Easter along with all the delicious sides. It was so very good! Everything was wonderful. The new owners have made a huge and much better restaurant. During football season we always get ribs to bring home for halftime. Excellent! And they are so nice and go out of their way to make you happy!

I have been eating Golden Rule since I was a child, and this is one of the best, if not the best. I had the Pork Plate and received a large portion of of meat with a good balance of inside and outside. I was expecting chopped, which is default at other locations, but this was larger-bite pulled. The flavor was fantastic; properly done. I also had the fries, which are fresh-cut and well-seasoned. Their BBQ beans have as much meat in them as beans — the way I prefer. The sweet tea I ordered was huge, thank you. A proper BBQ joint serves real banana pudding, and theirs did not disappoint. I would eat here any time.

Food was great and the service was even better! The wait staff worked as a team and was very attentive. I originally wanted to give it 4 stars because I went in to get a salad with smoked chicken on it. They only have iceberg lettuce . I asked if they had spring mix or anything and I could tell this is the wrong establishment for that kind of food. Server said everything was excellent so I went with pulled pork sandwich. It was outstanding and the side of onion rings where good too! No healthy options here. Only comfort food.
