DJ’s Clam Shack was created in late 2009 when two lower keys restaurateurs decided to combine years of experience to create easily accessible fresh seafood on Duval St. in Key West. The newly formed partnership was steeped in rich northeast seafood tradition, one partner hailing from Ipswich, Massachusetts the other from Blue Point, New York. Mix in over forty years of living, fishing and working the Florida keys, with its variety and incredible bounty of seafood, a recipe for success begins to emerge. The partners agreed that bringing traditional northern and southern sea fare together would interest people but they would have to combine only freshest and highest quality ingredients and find a way to keep prices reasonable. It’s hard to find a Connecticut style lobster roll (warm with butter), so I looked forward to eating here. They have a casual, laid back kind of vibe which is nice. The lobster roll itself was decent. The lobster meat didn’t have a ton of sweetness or flavor but there were big chunky pieces. The portion size looks a lot bigger in the picture then it actually was but the price was very reasonable for the size. I will say the one thing that could have made this roll a 1000x’s better, is real butter that is oily, salty and fatty. What we received was definitely “watered down.” The garlic clams were delicious but again a bit watery.

Stopped by here on vacation cause it was featured on Diners, drive ins, and dives. Really amazing lobster roll Herr. My boyfriend had it and was over the moon for it. I had some onion rings. Wished the batter would have been a slight different, ut they good whole slices of onions in them so that is a win.

I’m from Rhode Island and we specialize in good seafood. Especially, CLAM CHOWDER. THIS is not it. The clam chowder wasn’t that good. The clams in the shell with butter are watery. Tasted like wine might be mixed with it. My husband tried the fish and chips. It is not batter! It’s hand breaded. He didn’t enjoy it. Batter is better for traditional fish and chips. Also, the fish wasn’t COD. The garlic bread was good. I wouldn’t go back. Not worth my money.

We stopped in for dinner, and three of us had lobster roll with coleslaw, seafood sampler, and clam strips side. Everything was fantastic! The roll was delicious lobster overflowing the perfectly toasted bun. The seafood sampler included shrimp, fish and conch fritters plus fries. Very tasty!! Thanks Victor for you recommendations!!
