Amazing food, presentation, and environment. The waitress was super nice and got us everything my group asked her quickly. She even got all of the separate bills right.

Cazador Mexican Restaurant in Ankeny is a good mom & pop place with pretty good food and margaritas. The staff was really nice and service was quick. It was pretty busy when we visited, including a large group (10-12 people) but service was still prompt. Prices seemed a little higher than most Mexican restaurants we frequent in the Des Moines metro area.

Great family owned joint. Ankeny institution serving something for everyone. Something familiar, something spicy, something saucy. The owner, his family, and longtime trusted staff will find what you like. Added new dishes like Quesabirria Tacos and Tacos al Pastor bringing out new things. Dos Equis Amber on tap and Micheladas are favorite drinks, along with their Margaritas. Love to support the local place with roots going back decades

Warm inviting decor. Very attentive and polite staff. Our waitress Mida did a fantastic job. Food was incredible and the salsa was the best I’ve had in years. Definitely our new go to for Mexican food.

Service was good. The interior felt a little dated. I found the margaritas to be too sweet and I had to buy an extra shot of tequila to taste it (add $6). The meals were good but exceptionally over priced in my opinion $15-17 on average for a meal. It seems like all the local Mexican restaurants have upped their prices a lot but these seemed even higher than average!

We sat down with a basket of chips and salsa water. I had ice in my glass of water and my children had a glass of warm water. No ice in the cups. Next thing you know our table gust the fly was there. My daughter ordered a Taco which was perfect. A order of rice tiny as could be. Then I ordered con queso enchiladas. My daughter’s went to the bathroom and my the time they were done with the bathroom the food was done.

As usual, when I review a restaurant I try to describe something about my dinner that sets it aside from a similar dish at any other similar restaurant in town. At Cazador, it’s easy. I simply LOVE their fish Tacos, (picture) and is because every time I’ve had them, (they’re breaded and deep fried) the outer crust is crunchy (not greasy.) Trust me, we’ve all had fried fish, fried chicken, fried this or that and the outer crust is dripping with grease. Not here. AND, the chips are a bit on the thicker side, and wife and I both like it this way. My wife had the Beef Burrito Mexicano, and she loved it.

Server took our order 20 minutes before he took the order of a bigger party, food came out 2 minutes before the bigger party’s food, we had little kids that were getting impatient because they were hungry and food was taking way too long.

Really authentic Mexican food and freshest ever. The service is amazing and the drinks are absolutely perfect. Highly recommend this place. If someone says something wrong about this place is because they have no idea what great and authentic Mexican food means. Plas the personal touch with their owners is something we don’t see in other places.

My husband had the Chicken Fajitas, and they were AMAZING! I had the Burrito Mexicana. Mine was good, but next time I plan on getting the fajitas.
