The Pancake Hut, a long time (since 1979) Route 66 staple is exactly what you’d expect from a place named the Pancake Hut–great diner food, breakfast served all day, and of course, great BIG pancakes. I had the Hut Special, a generous meal with two big, fluffy pancakes, bacon, eggs, and coffee. Food was great, service was polite and prompt. The atmosphere is what the sign out front says…no frills, just good food. Of course they do have one thrill (see the pictures).

The best place for home cooking and breakfast atmosphere. We make a point to go here every time we go through Carthage. Good memories. If you are looking for clean but not super fancy you’ll like this local hole in the wall

I live down the street and this place was not a good experience. Finally went after hearing that it wasn’t anything to brag about and that’s absolutely correct. The tables, chairs, and baby chair were grimy to the touch. I ordered coffee and cup had a thick ring half way down. I asked for another cup and that was dirty as well. The waitress acted like there was a problem getting me a new cup. The hash browns were recooked.. the scrambled eggs weren’t cooked right.. you know you didn’t beat the eggs right when there’s a bunch of white from the yolks cooking separate. Our waitress wasn’t really friendly.. I felt like an outsider the whole time. She wasn’t rude.. but you can see the negative thoughts going through her head. Cleanliness was horrible.. food definitely not worth paying for.. it was leftovers practically. And I didn’t feel like I belonged here. Carthage Family is a lot better folks! It was just super busy that day so we went here.

Food is usually good. Just depends whose cooking that day. I love the small town atmosphere. Staff could be friendlier to other customers than the regulars, but that’s just my opinion.

The food is AMAZING and they keep the coffee coming! I’ve never been disappointed eating here and feel like I’ve visited home.

Meager amounts of food for astronomical prices. For two toddlers and two adults it was 41 dollars. The two toddlers each got chocolate milk and between the two they were given one full glass but we were charged for one full glass. Never would recommend to anyone, not only worse diner in Carthage but probably the worst restaurant in the greater joplin area.

Eat here! It is the best breakfast on the 66! The coffee is fresh, the cook is amazing and the waitress is the best!!! We ate here while staying at Boots Court and we will be back.

Lunch at “Pancake Hut”. I usually get breakfast, but today the “Texan cheeseburger” was calling my name.

Found a black hair on my plate where my toast had been sitting. How disgusting. By the way my hair is white. All the server could do was laugh and argue it wasn’t theirs. It certainly wasn’t mine. My tip if you get that hungry, watch for hair.
