Nice little Shanghainese restaurant right by the Grove St PATH station exit. I quite liked their sign design since it felt simple, but elegant at the same time. Came for lunch as a party of two and got the following:

I ordered delivery, so I can’t content on the restaurant’s service or atmosphere. I’ll try additional items in the future and potentially change my rating, but for right now… ugh. The crab Rangoons were literally the worst I’ve ever tasted. I just ended up throwing the rest out. The spicy beef was not spicy at all. It was just mildly flavored and swimming in oil and onions. The only semi tasty thing was the eggplant and green beans in brown sauce. Also, I’ve never seen a Chinese restaurant that had absolutely no rice, even simple white rice, come with a meat entree order. That’s just cheap beyond reason, in my opinion.

Food is above average. Some dishes might be a bit salty. Would rate 4 stars if the food portion is more reasonable. A good place if you want a light meal.

Ordered delivery. The braised meatballs tasted authentic and delicious. The pork hocks were lots of flavor but just a bit too salty. Both dishes go very well with white rice, which does not come with the dishes and you’ll need to order on the side. The wine braised chicken thighs were my least favorite, salty and not fresh. It would’ve been five stars if the food were not so salty, but if you like salty and rich flavors then definitely try out this restaurant

My Australian Chinese lady friend and I had been looking for some legit Chinese food and we finally found it here. Salt & Ginger has authentic Chinese – specifically Shanghainese – food. It’s delicious, cheap, and there’s tons of options. I have to emphasize that the quality is very good. We had the chicken leg, pumpkin cake, peanut noodles, pork meatballs, and soup dumplings. I like variety, so really enjoyed this. I recommend you mix and match things that you prefer and share. We’ll be back for sure.

The food was very very good, especially the fried rice with a large meatball, garlic popcorn chicken, and soup dumplings. The atmosphere was a little underwhelming & the metal chairs were not comfortable. It was also too warm inside, I was near sweating while just sitting eating a meal. I had to ask for ice for my water just to cool down. The server was attentive & knowledgeable.

Mediocre level – meat is not that saturated, noodles are commonly bought from supermarkets, flavors are unsurprising.

We got take out from here and the food was ready in 10 min. We liked the two savory dishes – the battered tofu soaked up the flavorful sauce and also had a hint of sweetness. The black bean popcorn chicken was tender. We also got the pumpkin cake with shredded coconut – although we enjoyed the texture, it tasted blend and could be better if it’s sweeter.

Lovely delicious place for lunch. Bonus… they have air conditioning and lots of seating! The owner is delightful. Many restaurants in this area have no air conditioning nor seating so this is my new favorite place to go!
