This is just another one of those diners around Washington that was just ok for me when I visited and I will tell you why….First off as soon as I sat down and was presented a menu the server immediately asked if I was ready to order. Now, I don’t know if it is normal for these places to be giving the customers the bums rush, but it does seem a bit off-putting. Second, the food was decent. I ordered the blueberry pancakes along with a side of bacon. The bacon was a tad too salty for my taste, and the pancakes were not great, but not bad either. They tasted like they came from a box with just a few blueberries sprinkled on top. Third….what is up with having a cat walking around the restaurant while people are eating? It’s definitely an issue there. Fourth, I got the check right after I took approximately three bites of my food. Like, really? What is the rush to push customers, especially new customers, out the door? Fifth, the restaurant itself, including the bathroom, needs a serious upgrade. Now, the menu itself isn’t too bad, and a majority of the items are very inexpensive, with the exception of a cup of coffee. The waitstaff, in spite of being a bit pushy, was friendly. They do offer indoor and outdoor dining currently. As a person who eats out quite often and absolutely loves diner food, this place was a miss for me on many levels. Would I come here again the next time I visit Washington? Maybe….or maybe not.

I would give 10 stars but 5 is the most. Was seated quickly and order was taken immediately. I ordered a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. It was the most delicious sausage I’ve ever had. Food came out very fast. I saw someone with a milkshake so I decided to try one too. It was a very good handmade chocolate milkshake with ice cream and chocolate syrup. Everything is reasonably priced. I will be returning.

A great place to get breakfast or lunch right near the Capitol Building and Library of Congress. Lots of good choices. Friendly and fast service too!

One of the only diners open for breakfast on a Monday morning. Prices were very reasonable. The friendly cat roams the restaurant and even has his own seat reserved at the bar. Food came out very quickly and was tasty. Hot coffee. Good spot for breakfast near Capital Hill.

Terrible dried out waffle. Terrible dried out bacon. A cat that walks on the table and counters (it has water and food bowls inside). Omelette and hash browns were good.

I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast at Pete’s Diner. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy, and the bacon had a good flavor. The staff was kind and attentive. I am glad I stopped here for a wholesome and tasty breakfast before starting my day of museum exploring.

Fast friendly service. Breakfast food comes to the table before you give your menu back. Servers stay on top of this very busy popular TIGHT dinning spot.
