We had a great experience. I grew up on Clear Lake IA and had the Barrel Drive In all the time. It was fun to go and have that experience again now that Clear Lake doesn’t have it anymore. Thanks for giving me a bit of my childhood back.

We stopped by while in the area. Old school drive-in restaurant. Our server was nervous but super friendly and efficient. Food was great for a burger joint. Both in taste and price.

The food is good, the ice cream is average at best. Today when I was there the supervisor was screaming at staff and being totally unprofessional. Several others could hear her screaming at her staff.

Krista is fast, efficient and great with her customers! The food is always hot and smells and tastes amazing! I recommend the HiBoy it’s the best! Love their chicken and onion rings too! Hands down #1 outdoor restaurant!

I will start this review by saying the food here is GREAT and this used to be a regular Sunday stop for me, but sadly I will not be returning. I called in an order ahead and was told that it would he 15 minutes. After waiting 30 minutes I walked in to check in on the order; and there was a staff member absolutely SCREAMING at all of the staff. She then said “you should have told her 30-45 minutes on the phone.” She was being extremely rude to the young staff. It was unbelievable how she was speaking to them. People who were in their cars could hear the woman screaming and talking completely disrespectful to the staff. As I walked away I heard other customers saying how something from their meal was missing, but they didn’t want to ask to have it corrected because of that specific staff member being so rude. Very disappointing. When the high school staff brought my food she apologized for the ADULTs behavior.

The owner has been here way too long. She is MISERABLE. Treats her staff horrible, which consists of High School kids. YELLS at her customers. Took 45 minutes for COLD chicken strips, after we asked how much longer she went irate screaming at us in front of our kids. She shouldn’t be there if she’s that miserable. She’s ruining the experience for everyone. Will never back.

Middle of the afternoon in West Union, three other fast food choices with near- empty parking lots were in sight, but things were hopping at the Barrel! Why? Onion rings. Light golden batter, crispy but not so much as to mask the flavor of the onion. I thought a medium order would be enough but we would’ve gladly eaten twice as much. Yes it’s an oldie, but the (tiny) bathroom was super clean, and the half- barrel planters a nice touch. We’ll be back to sample the broasted chicken.
