It is hard to state in words how phenomenal the food and service are here. If you are not familiar with German food, they are very understanding and helpful. If you don’t know what you want or will like, there is an option for a sampling of food that comes family style. You will not eat it all. Well, you may, but you’ll probably regret that.

I *think* they were understaffed for having 3 conventions in town at once. There were only 2 waitresses that I could see. We waited in line at the door for at least 20 minutes just to put our names on the waiting list. Only no one ever came to take our names. We watched 2 groups in front of us leave because of the wait. Then a friend of mine saw me waiting and came over to warn me. They had been there for 2 hours total so far and had been waiting 30 minutes just for the check so they could leave. That’s when we decided to go ahead and go somewhere else.

Came for lunch and it was delightful! Our waitress Wendi helped me choose from the menu and we were both impressed. The food was great and very authentic. Way more than sausages & sauerkraut. (But those were both delicious). Good beer. Wonderful staff and atmosphere. Definitely worth the stop.

Was told to come here by locals and it is as authentic as it can get! Super cute place! Owners came from Germany and are the sweetest. Food was fresh and the pretzel is A MUST. The best I’ve ever had along with that homemade cheese sauce. I would drive another 4.5 hours just to get that pretzel again yummmmm.

Second time here. 7 years apart. Great atmosphere and German food. From outside it looks smaller than it is, but it’s still a quaint French Lick icon. I had the zwiebelschnitzel and German fried potatoes. Huge portion and came out very hot. Servers are dressed the part and ours was on point with service and recommendations.

Food was great. Wait staff was great understaffed (only two servers). We waited over 20 minutes before anyone was able to take our order(drink and food). However, after everything was ordered things arrived rather quickly, and the food was great!

My boyfriend and I went in around lunch and sat at the bar. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. We got a few beers, giant pretzel, and sample for 2 guests, and German chocolate cake. Everything was so good! Best meal we have had in a long time. The sauerkraut, red cabbage, and spatzel were my favorite.

We arrived late on a Sunday, but the friendly hostess was still happy to seat us. The decor has a kind of warm, Grandma kind of charm. Not knowing a lot about German cuisine, we just took a shot and ordered jaegerschnitzel and goulash for the adults and a German hotdogs for the the 2 year old. We had the Sides Platter as well. The food arrived quickly, was well prepared, and plated attractively. Everything was DELICIOUS! The servers were all very friendly and helpful. Restaurants like this are difficult to find these days with so many being short staffed. Our only problem was not being able to try more on menu during this visit.

We came in to a mostly empty restaurant and were seated quickly enough. But we waited 45 min for a $14 salad and a slice of cake. We’d have canceled our order and left if we could’ve found someone to tell.

If you are visiting French Lick, eat at the German Café! The food is really good and authentic. The prices are very reasonable. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. Decor is quaint and a bit eclectic. Tip, go for the big sample platter… it’s more food than you’ll expect. We loved it and will be back.
