Great food in a comfortable and casual setting. There’s a good reason the Donkey Inn has been around this long, it’s because they do it right. Wide variety of menu options and consistently tasty food. Table service attentive. Facility spotless and relaxing. Overall, a great spot to stop and enjoy a drink or a meal, alone or with friends.

Went on a Friday night after we beat Fremd. Cheeseburger was cooked just as ordered. The French fries were perfect as well. The chicken sandwich was just a chicken sandwich. The mozzarella sticks were hot and crispy. I’d go back. I’m surprised how many things are on the menu. @food_from_the_usa

Mediocre. Walked into a dark bar atmosphere and upon sitting down noticed dusty blinds. Very large variety of food at a good price if that’s what you’re looking for. However, everything our party ate was nothing special. Service was spotty and not the most cleanly. Overall, probably good hangout bar spot for locals, etc, but don’t recommend overall.

Whatever the girls name is that is bartending right now is the worst. She has reddish brownish pigtail braids. She is in slow motion. No sense of urgency. We sat there for 10 minutes at the bar, waiting to order beer and get a menu and then ended up leaving after she looked at us and never came over. She’s filling drinks 3/4 of the way and having to waste time going back to finish filling. People still waiting for the drinks they ordered, while she tends to others asking for drinks and food after them and then fills their orders first. Then starts filling the bar ticket orders coming in, while still hasn’t gone back to the orders of those who were still waiting and ordered first. Other patrons smiled and threw up their hands and said they don’t blame us for leaving as we walked out the door and she barely glanced in our direction or acted like she cared at all. Less customers for her to worry about. Ridiculous lack of customer service on this woman’s part. She may need to find a new occupation.

Good food. They appeared to be understaffed. We sat in the outdoor patio area, but the bartender was our waitress. The bartender also appeared to be busing tables – she was clearly hustling. There was a younger female server that appeared to have only one table, yet spent most of her time apparently going over checks at the wait station. Even if I am incorrect or ill-informed, the optics were bad.

Unfortunately the good old Donkey Inn has lost its spark. Though the food is still great, the lack of service, in fact trying to even get service once seated has forced a 2 star rating. We have enjoyed this location and have lived in the area for over 25 years but the last few years have been disappointing. We’ve even had to walk out after being ignored both at the door and sitting at a table for over 10 minutes. No reason for poor service any longer.. can’t keep blaming the pandemic or lack of staff. The staff they currently have need better training and customer service skills. Too bad.. it used to be a local gem in Palatine.

My mom and I visited the Donkey Inn for a late lunch on a weekday afternoon. She went with a burger special and I decided I wanted an all-day breakfast dish. The food arrived warm and tasted good. The service was a bit slow but the waitress did mention one of the wait/bar staff had an injury which was why things were slower than usual. It was good to hear that because we did wonder why it was taking a while to get our drinks and food orders. Everything was great and I am looking forward to my next visit to give a more thorough review of different food options.
