Louisiana Creole Gumbo Menu – Detroit, MI

Type : Creole restaurant

Location : Detroit, MI

Joseph Stafford brought Creole cooking to Detroit in October 1970 when he and his wife Margarine opened Luzianne Creole Gumbo shop at 2051 Gratiot Ave., on the edge of Detroit’s Eastern Market. Stafford learned to cook from his mother on Bayou Lafourche near Thibodaux, Louisiana in the southwest part of New Orleans. The recipes Stafford used then are the same recipes when you will find when you walk into Louisiana Creole Gumbo today –

Now a Detroit culinary landmark, in 1982, the Stafford’s retired and entrusted the restaurant to a management group led by Joe Spencer, under the name of LCG Inc. Today, Joe Spencer and his family are keeping Joseph Stafford’s recipes, legacy and love for this great city live alive and well.

Creole chicken, seafood gumbo & jambalaya offered in a bright counter-service restaurant. Based on 853 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.0 stars. Price $

Shrimp gumbo was lacking in every way. Four small shrimp and very bland. The greens were sweet; too much for my taste. This was a disappointment and I won’t return.

We come here every Sunday after church and every Sunday they consistently good. The corn muffins are authentic and so delicious, the seafood always fresh and the dishes warm your soul. I don’t like the peach cobbler, too much cinnamon but the cake is moist and fluffy. I recommend the pick 3 or 4 great deal for a meal and you can mix and match.

I ordered the Red Beans and Rice with sausage and the sausage was spoiled. I’ve been a customer over 20 years at the Gratiot /Chene location and I’ve never ever received spoiled food. This is unacceptable. Waste of money.

Yuck. 50% celery. Green broth. 4 okra, 5 shrimp. Nothing at all like New Orleans gumbo. Never again.

ALWAYS go here! I’ve been eating their food since I was a teen and after all these years it’s the ONLY place I can go and it taste the same way it did when I first fell in love with this place! The red beans and rice with Cajun sausage is A MUST HAVE! If you’re visiting or from the Metro Detroit Area you need to definitely try this historic place if you want some REAL Louisiana cooking.
