My husband and I wandered into Walker’s while on the hunt for ice cream in downtown Mt. Airy after a hike at Hanging Rock State Park. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food smelled delicious, so we ended up getting cheeseburgers and fries. Both were delicious! Then we shared a chocolate malt, which was epic! They serve it in a traditional tall glass and then give you the metal canister used to make the malt with the extra. Utterly DELICIOUS!

Well, this was kinda dissapointing as far as the food goes. The hamburgers were super small and had very little of the toppings that were supposed to come on them (slaw,chili). The price for a Carolina Burger (1st photo) was ten dollars and served with some fries. It was busy so our wait for the food was pretty long. The staff was very courteous and attentive. The star of the show is the malts and shakes served in glass or metal cups. The menu is pretty small and the seating is kind of limited unless you want to sit at the bar.

We were in Mount Airy for our family vacation. After our hike up Mount Pilot, we looked for a place to get a milkshake and tried here. Not disappointed. Very welcoming staff. The malt and shakes were more than we asked for. We loved it so much we came back the next day for lunch. And we got more of the same from the staff and the food was awesome. We’re not big eaters anymore so the portions were no big deal. Perfect for us and the taste was amazing. If we ever make it back to Mount Airy, we hope to enjoy this place again!

Just okay. The waitress didn’t seem interested in serving us. We felt like we were an inconvenience to her. It took a long time to check out at the register even though there was no line. Stacks, upon stacks of dirty dishes on counter. Decor was just okay. The ice cream is good though.

My husband surprised me by taking me to ‘Mayberry’ for my birthday. It was AWESOME! After lunch at Barney’s we made our way down to Walker’s for an ice cream. I gotta say; it was delicious enough to have been a down payment on a husband. LOL Andy should have married Ellie. That ice cream is delicious. The people were great. We sat at the bar and enjoyed talk time and fellowship with the staff.

We were slow to be greeted and seated, even though there were tables open. The lady who seated us was very unfriendly and almost rude. Service was very slow and the food was average. The memorabilia on the shelves was interesting and that’s about it. The restaurant needed to be tidied up also. I would not return here given all the other choices in the area.

Service was excellent , would definitely come back! The owner makes you feel like family! If you don’t like the way a burger is on the menu he let’s you have it the way you want it! Old time soda shoppe with excellent down home people, great job !
