To the NEW salem lowe that opened up today, Sunday May 28th 2023 we got chicken fingers and they are in these little bits and pieces and they melt in your mouth, they’re oily, and taste nothing like chicken. Even after 6 attempts of biting into different ones, even trying the duck sauce with them. These are NOT chicken fingers.. Bleh! What did you guys do?! Why change what the old owners originally served?! Their chicken fingers were battered just right, had a crunch, and you would get a solid piece of white meat that would spear out from the batter with each bite. Do better New Salem Lowe. I hate to be harsh, but you changed the authenticity.

The beef, pepper, onion sandwich was excellent. I think it was much better than the old owners. The price was cheap too. I have to admit that it’s the only thing I’ve ever had there in 45 years.

New owners changed the old yummy recipes. Seems like they don’t like to cut the Veggies small and pay attention to the small details. They leave the veggies big in the Pepper Steaks and Chop Suey sandwiches. They also switched the steak to more of a steak bomb meat not the nice tender small cut pieces. The gravy in the pepper Steaks is not the sweet savory original gravy anymore. It was just a brown gravy mix. Nothing special. The chop Suey was pretty plain. Not much chicken but it was the closest thing they had to the original. Hopefully they switch back and figure out how to make those classics again.

Chop suey sandwich was excellent and the old owners would be happy with them. My combo plate on the other hand, not so great. The duck sauce was sour, boneless spare ribs were extremely salty, I couldn’t even eat a full piece and the pork fried rice was meh. It’s too bad. They seem like nice guys and I know it is still very new. Really hope they can figure it out because its a great spot with really good history!

The tender steak is not like the original very very salty! The rice was mushy tasted like smoke. Their chicken wings definitely not Chinese style. If you like all oily batter get the chicken fingers! The portions Are very small compared to the original salem lowe house. Do not recommend this place..

Got a few tender steak sandwhiches and the gravy was watery and lacked flavor. For what i payed i could of drove to west peabody and got better food. Will not be coming back again. Do your self a favor and stay away from this skimpy flavourless food.

To reiterate on the post about the lack of authenticity I was excited to try this place and the service as well as the food were equally under par. They continue to apologize yet clearly continue to produce raw, oily, undercooked food. What I was charged for undercooked chicken fingers, feathered chicken wings and raw dough eggrolls was absurd and excessive. So sad that such a legendary restaurant has gone down the drain. Should have at least changed the name. THIS IS NOT THE LOWES WE KNOW AND LOVED!! AVOID at all cost!

If you buy a local legend then you had better live up to those standards. Instead, they bought a local legend, changed the menu, severely raised prices, changed the ingredients and will most likely not survive another year. Having grown up in the area, Salem Lowe was a destination in itself. You could feed yourself and 2 kids 3 times in the past for what what you charge now. Between the pu pu platter, the combo plate, the Peking ravioli and drinks cost almost $70!! Usually I would kick at the seagulls to keep away from my food but instead, that day, they were fed most of our food as not much of it was fit for human consumption. If the new owners want to fix this, go back to the old menu, go back to the old ingredients, I can see a slight increase in prices but not what they are currently at. Either go back to a winning formula with people lined up or keep the current course and fail. Salem Lowe was amazing, greasy and cheap food not this Chinese bistro that nobody asked for.
