We had a GREAT first visit to Mogu for a quick Friday lunch. Everything was delicious and the store is clean, pretty, and comfortable.

Tonight was my first time coming here and it won’t be my last! The sesame chicken was crispy and the rice was fluffy and fresh. Great portions for what you pay. Avery and Tiana were very friendly when taking mine and my boyfriend’s order.

Love this healthy new take on Chinese food. Very clean, well appointed, friendly staff and NO OIL FRYING… All cooked to order using air fryers ovens… The scallion pancakes were crispy delights, the egg drop wonton soup was delicious… Not overly salted and wontons were tiny yummy bites and the chicken and broccoli was very good. Others in my party says the sweet and sour soup was the best they’ve ever had Three locations…definitely see this place catching on. Love it

Honestly, I don’t know who these people are that are raving about this place, but it’s not good. Our usual place was closed (Monday) and figured we would give this place a shot because we really wanted chicken and broccoli and pork fried rice. Well, what a disappointment. We tried a few other things on the menu as well; the wonton soup, pork eggroll and the Mei Fun (spending almost $40). Honestly, Trader Joe has a better tasting frozen Chinese food selection. Portions are small, you can’t make any alterations to anything (like if you dont want onions) because everything appears to be ready made and frozen, thawed to order. If I could give it zero stars I would. Only thing I can day I did like was the vinegar ginger sauce for the eggroll.

Second time for takeout at MOGU following an initial visit several years back when they first opened. The Mogu concept is definitely interesting however, if you are an experienced Chinese food devotee you might find the whole experience comes up short. So, on a busy Sunday evening I placed an online order of approximately $100 worth of Mogu apps/entrees. The pictures and food descriptions definitely intrigue you when you’re hungry. There are opportunities to “customize” your order and that we did. I gave Mogu a good 35min. heads-up for my order and actually got to the restaurant early. Before I launch into the food I wanted to comment about service BEHIND the counter. Looking into the Mogu kitchen you will note that one side is populated by those making your dinner and the other side separated by a “pass” consists of older HS/young college-aged packers and expediters. On the night I visited it was a frenzy of activity. What shocked me is that it seemed that there mere plenty more than enough folks working the kitchen side AND the expediters/packers. Yet, we know the old adage about too many chefs in the kitchen. There seemed to be a lot of inexperienced packers as evidenced by constant switching of orders and folks were confused, that’s for sure. The online ordering system is great and Mogu has a good kiosk system once you get to the restaurant to pick-up your order. That said, the packing leaves a lot to be desired. My large order came in drips and drabs and I waited a full 30 minutes watching a stack of my packaged dishes cooling off (most needed microwave reheating when I arrived home – that’s a problem). Secondly, because all the food packers were literally grabbing food as it materialized you know instinctively that there was going to be a huge mistake fulfilling the order. This was realized upon arriving home only to noticed that the chicken egg roll that we got was not labelled correctly by the Mogu staff – it was steak. That’s not good. Next, the promised sauces I specified in my order were completely absent. Now, you might suggest that I should have checked my order BEFORE leaving the restaurant and that’s a good idea. The trouble is that the packer quadruple stapled my 2 bags shut. I was also concerned that some of my order sat on the counter easily for more than 15 minutes. Not good. The staff is conscientious but they work very fast and not carefully to ensure that your order is correct. In fact, on the evening we ordered food I witnessed 2 customers return to tell the folks behind the counter that they were missing parts of their order. I’m not sure exactly why there were so many different hands on my order but it seems that there needs to be a better organized system. Let’s get to the food:

I ordered Mei fun noodles. They were so dry that I had to stop eating them. They look plastic. I told the worker if she had the same sauce used to make it and she said no. I stopped eating them. They texture got harder and I felt it wasn’t something natural. I’m pretty sure the noodles were made out of plastic material. Do not order this…I wasted $14

I know vegetarian food. I have been a vegetarian for 40 years now. I am an Indian and a brilliant cook at that. I know flavor. Don’t understand blandness in food. But most vegetarian food in the West is either bland or overwhelmed with spices and ingredients.
