We’re Brass Pig Smoke & Alehouse and we’ve been a smoked BBQ restaurant here in Bloomington, IL, since 2019. We believe in smoking our locally sourced meats daily and adding a twist to our every day sandwiches, like Italian beef, brisket point burger and our Notorious P.I.G.- A Carolina styled pulled pork sandwich. We started this business when I bought a smoker ten years ago and what started out as a hobby became a passion, add in my enjoyment of great bourbon and the brass pig was born. The brisket and wings were dry and had no flavor, aside from the sauce on the side. The fried corn tasted like watered down corn on the cob. Corn bread was over cooked. The Cuban sandwich had no flavor. The best part of the meal was the hand cut fries, cold slaw, sauces and jalapeño butter. Was excited to have a BBQ joint but this place fell very short on my list. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed.

The food was just okay. The bbq nachos had a lot of watery liquid at the bottom for some strange reason. The cheese on top was different, but good and had a nice kick. It’s probably not an item I’d get again though. It was trivia night, so that was pretty cool.

Nice smokehouse with a great selection of beers and a lot of good food options. I had turkey breast and sausage platter with fries and Mac and cheese. I picked the Cherry Bomb sauce and the Four Horsemen sauce. The Cherry sauce is amazing. Four Horsemen sauce is hot but flavorful, but could stand to be a bit hotter.

Great experience. We got there right as they opened. We placed our order and got our food in probably less than 5 minutes. My friend with me is from Kansas City and gave them the seal of approval for some “rocking BBQ”. We both ordered the Notorious P.I.G. … and… well… I’ll let the picture speak for itself. *chef’s kiss*

Got there at 2030, waitress said we had 5 minutes to order before the kitchen closed and we were NOT disappointed! I had the 2 item combo with brisket, ribs and side of Mac and cheese and cucumber salad. All were delicious! Service was excellent.

First time here. I suspect we just came at the wrong time. But… The pulled pork was either very dry and tough or full of fat. The couple pieces that seemed ok had a great taste, but wish the entire meal had been better. One meal, rib tips, was so dry we only ate a couple. Fries served were tasty. The server was very nice, but disappeared into the back and we needed a couple drink refills. Even another server brought a ticket out to another table, but never bothered to look up at any of the other tables and just walked into the back while we were waving her attention. Our server did show up with our ticket, however, but it was too late to help with drinks. Probably won’t be going here again. Management, I own businesses and I understand you need to stay on top of employees for even simple things. But, something was lacking this past Sunday afternoon. You can do better than this. No day should be a lazy day for employees.

We stopped in Bloomington on our way north. This is a gem of a place, very friendly & helpful people. The meats are smoked in house and are amazing! Wings, brisket, chicken & pulled pork were phenomenal! Not sure if we can go back to eating the traditional wings after this. Along with baked beans and collard greens.

The BBQ here was quite enjoyable. Despite the advertised spice of “habanero pickles” they were delightfully barely spicy. My Cuban was enjoyable and the portions were well sized. Enough to enjoy for a meal and just fill one up. Our server was friendly and stayed on top of things.

Unfortunately we arrived too late for a full meal, so we ordered some appetizers. The BBQ nachos were a little cold in the center, and while their bacon had great smoked flavor, the strips were very thin and fatty. However, the wings were fantastic, and the bar served up a terrific Old Fashioned. They even offered several bourbon or rye options! We’ll definitely return for dinner sometime.
