GONG restaurant specializes in cooking Northeast Chinese hometown cuisine and Southwest Sichuan local cuisine. The Northeastern hometown cuisine are characterized by Stewing, Marinating, and Grilling . The taste of the Northeastern dish is thick and with rough lines, and it is not rigidly adhered to details. It resembles the bold Northeastern people, full of savory taste. So it is not easy to taste this legendary hometown dish in most restaurants.

The food here is absolutely AMAZING. Don’t let the prices scare you away. Yes, it is a little more expensive than other area Chinese restaurants, but the quality it WORTH IT, with unique dishes you won’t find anywhere else around here, and the portion sizes are MASSIVE — these are definitely meant for sharing. The waitstaff are very helpful in offering suggestions and explaining unfamiliar dishes, and last time they improvised a dish just for my child. Plenty of options for vegetarians!

If I could give this restaurant a 10 I would. Yes, it can be spicy but please research about Northern Chinese Food and if you can’t handle spicy ask for adjustments. They’re wonderful about making the dish perfect for you. Also, the size of a dish is very big so it is sharable, don’t make the price scare you it worth it!!!

1. If you are typical Michigander and don’t eat spicy things, make sure you look at the beautiful pictures accompanying the menu items and choose something that doesn’t have chilies…

Perfect spot for a date night with that special someone. Food is definitely worth the price. When you can hear them chopping in the back, you know that your food is going to be fresh! Also a very relaxing atmosphere.

Food, atmosphere and staff were incredible! Portions are large enough for 4 people. We’ve had our eye on this place for a while and I’m glad we were able to try it.

Very relaxed atmosphere… This was the first time I’ve had dry hot pot chicken (and yes, I ordered it Medium spicy). The chicken was fried nice, light, fragrant, and juicy inside. The peppers, cilantro, and peanuts all balanced the flavours of the chili and hot oil. The dish is quite flavourful.

We really enjoy coming here. I love the old mother pork belly. I always request it without the Szechuan peppercorns. That flavor is not something that appeals to me. The chinese sausage fried rice is yummy here! Very good. I will definitely go back.

Had the spicy tofu, chef gong beef, and chili oil fried rice. It’s a great restaurant to go with friends and share the large portions. It’s a bit pricey but all the plates are meant to be shared.
