A friend and I decided to dine in at GrillMarx after hearing about its recent opening. Our first impressions were nothing but positive. The atmosphere is very pleasant to say the least. The hostess who greeted us was incredibly kind and our server, Emma, was fantastic. I was particularly interested in ordering the spinach dip, as that is my go to appetizer at any restaurant, but I was disappointed. It wasn’t all that creamy and was oddly bitter. The house made veggie burger was simply not good. It appeared as if someone who had never tasted a veggie burger came up with the recipe. It began falling apart the second I bit into it as the only thing holding the patty together was the cheese melted on top. My friend enjoyed her tortellini a la vodka but thought that it was just lackluster overall. For a restaurant with such a fantastic environment I just expected more on the food front. This is a restaurant worth giving a try but probably not a second try.

I LOVE me a good steak and I am so happy to share that you can get a GREAT steak at GrillMarx in College Park. I’ve been to some of the best Steakhouses in the DMV, BLT, The Palm, Charlie Palmer’s, Morton’s and so on. Yes, I’m about to go there; the steaks at GrillMarx are at that same level but at a lower price point which is always a win win.

I want to start with saying that Addison was amazing. But the “Manager” Joey was absolutely horrible. I started out very excited to order a steak and a lobster tail. When my meal arrived the first thing I noticed was the lobster was so over cooked that it was sticking to the shell. They offered to cook another lobster as I continued in my meal I noticed there was a hair on my steak. I was offered to remake the meal and it would be comped. What I thought was the replacement meal came out and it was actually really good. I ate a good amount of the food and got a box for the rest. When the bill came out we were very surprised that the manager had “comped” the first meal and only offered 50% off the “second meal”. I went here for the first time, and although the service was remarkable, I have just a two concerns. I’d ordered the mussels, and they were cooked well, but it could’ve been seasoned a little bit better. To add, there were a swarm of fruit flies coming in our booth due to my red wine. So, we moved to another table, and although there were fewer fruit flies, they were still attracted to my wine. I’ve never been in a restaurant with fruit flies. Never. I always order a glass of wine too, and this just doesn’t happen. They need to manage and get rid of this insect problem asap.

I stayed at the hotel at College Park, MD and had three meals at GrillMarx. The first night we ate in restaurant, the service was very accommodating for my party, great food, great service, kind attentive server. The second night I picked up food to eat in my room and was sent away with a spoon to eat salad with because they had no utensils up front. The third night I had room service and received utensils but the food was cool, crabcake seemed undercooked and mashed potatoes were dry. Takeout menu doesn’t include desserts, and could use more variety of appetizers.

I am a fan of steakhouses, from the roadhouse to the very high end; This is definitely a high end experience. The staff was young, but very professional and knowledgeable, the cocktail I had (house Manhattan) was delicious and well balanced, and the food was prepared perfectly. I ordered the Chef’s cut, and was very pleased with the result: Well prepared, excellently presented and flavorful. My waitress suggested an excellent wine pairing and it was perfect. I rarely order dessert but the main course was so good I wanted the full experience, and I highly recommend you do the same.

This was flat out an excellent meal. Everything was on point and the service was outstanding. My father in law went off menu and they accommodated flawlessly. I had oysters and the ribeye. I had asked for rare to medium rare ant it was cooked to perfection. Three different varieties of oysters. Awesome!

We went to Grillmarx for my son’s college graduation lunch. It was perfect. The red sangrias were delicious and were served in large glasses. The crab dip was extraordinary. My husband and I had New York Strip steaks (which were grilled and seasoned to perfection) with the macaroni and cheese which was also delicious. My son ordered the ribs which he thoroughly enjoyed, and my daughter ordered the avocado, chicken bacon sandwich which she said was delicious. All portions were large. The server was friendly and efficient. The environment was classy and enjoyable. The hostess validated my parking ticket for the parking garage. I highly recommend.
