Anyone in the Charlotte area knows there is a short supply of great tasting hispanic cuisine, and today we found a hidden gem. Puerto Rican style food did not disappoint. My go to meal is always the steak and onions, paired with white rice, black beans and either tostones or Maduros. Also was able to try the mofongo and was so tasty. Staff was friendly and very helpful talking through the menu and recommendations. Highly recommend if you are in the matthews/mint hill/ Charlotte area. Will certainly be back again soon! 5 stars all the way.

Be careful ordering from their website. Even though some menu items aren’t available every day, the website lets you order unavailable items every day. I unknowingly did this for a pickup order and the restaurant didn’t remove the charge. It was a hassle to finally get refunded after calling the restaurant 2x and the website company 2x; especially since the staff speaks Spanish, only.

We’ve been here from Florida since 2006 and FINALLY we’ve found an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant.

Go for the delicious Puerto Rican food. Came here for my birthday and we ordered a lot of food. The pork empanadas were delicious. The bacalaitos, arroz con gandules, mofongo, tostones, maduros and pernil were phenomenal!! The Kola Champagne brought back so many wonderful childhood memories. The flan was a bit burned but overall excellent food!!

Small place. Simply but delicious food. You order at bar and receive your food on the table. The girl who service us was very friendly and explicit about the menu. First time trying Puerto rican food. I recommend it.

El Cilantro is definitely a legit PuertoRican restaurant. They have all your typical plates arroz con gandules, pernil, maduros and frituras rellanos, alcapurrias, bacalaitos etc. We started with some frituras had the relleno de papa, empanadas and bacalaitos. What absolutely sealed it for me was the Trifongo which was a surprise because it was not on the menu. I ordered Mofongo con carne de cerdo and was asked if I wanted plátano, yuca which were the ones stated in the menu and then she said Trifongo. If you guys don’t know Trifongo is Mofongo but made with green plantains, yuca and maduros(ripe plantains). It was delicious was a big portion and the carne was cooked perfectly. My friend had arroz con habichuelas and chuleta which was also cooked perfectly nothing was dry. The Mayo ketchup was on point also. I had to finish it with a pastelillito de guayaba(guava pastry). I will definitely be back and recommending this place to my friends

Love El Cilantro!!! Food is very good and service too! The only thing is the music. It is a little bit on the loud side and it is hard to hold a conversation while in the restaurant. That is the ONLY feedback I would give them— lower the music, please.

I had the fried fish and it was good but the menu said $10-20, it ended up costing around $25. In Chicago I got the same dish for $16, I guess I better get use to it.
