Shawn’s BBQ opened in Culpeper thanks to the foundation that had been built with early supporters. The Warrenton location followed in 2015 and Fredericksburg in 2019.
In the end, the secret to great barbecue isn’t much of a secret, Shawn said. Get the food right, and the customers will come. Except, as he learned from his mom’s catering business, serving food is also about serving a piece of yourself to others.
Shawn’s Smokehouse BBQ is a family affair. Wife Magdalena—or “the real Shawn” because of all she does in the kitchen—and his five children all contribute their own flourishes to his barbecue story. Shawn’s name might be on the restaurant, but his entire family is invested in what it means to be the local spot for great barbecue.

I love me some Shawn’s. My favorite meats on the menu are the burnt ends, and all their smoked pulled meats. I have to say that I think you are all missing the best coleslaw in the universe! Look the pulled chicken is great, but it’s just perfectly smoked chicken UNTIL you add Shawn’s magic coleslaw. I swear I tasted angel wings and fairy dust (may have been coconut). I will see you all again as soon as I make it back out there.

Shawn’s Smokehouse is amazing. I have yet to have a single thing from the menu that isn’t beyond outstanding. Today I tried the wings with their dry run and the Smokehouse salad with brisket. Cannot say enough how good their food is!! Paired with a Beer Hound Tucker and it is the perfect dinner.

The service was great — the staff here went above and beyond and were incredibly welcoming. They were a young crew, but they were very professional, so kudos to them. The brisket was really good! The mac and cheese was a bit disappointing, it tasted like Velveeta mac and cheese if that’s your preference.

I ordered 55.00 worth of food tonight a junior sampler the ribs were pretty much all bone with no real taste the pulled pork was dry but the fries are still banging as I remember their menu on line is out of date you have to call multiple times before anybody answers. I use to order the curbside jr all the time during Covid which is no longer available and I had no complaints. I don’t understand what has happened. My heart is broken the young lady that waited on me for my carry out order was great. I’ve been trying to get there for weeks and finally did very sad

Great BBQ. No matter when I go, the food is always good and it’s still my place to go for brisket, wings and ribs. You gotta try it. While the service is sometimes sporadic, it’s nevertheless a friendly experience.

My family and I stopped by Sean’s BBQ tonight. I am very pleased. We ordered the platter that feeds 1-2 which includes 4 meats and 3 sides. We ordered the pulled chicken, pork BBQ, ribs and brisket. We ordered coleslaw, green beans, Mac and cheese and potato salad. We ordered a couple sides in addition to the platter. It easily fed all 5 of us. Sean stopped by our table to greet us and ask us how everything was. He seems very laid back and kind. For dessert, we got ordered the banana pudding. Which was also a hit. It had caramel in it which really added a sweet twist on it. The only thing I can think of that wasn’t great was some of the fountain drinks were flat. But others weren’t, so we had options. We even ordered a few sides to take home. I highly recommend Sean’s BBQ. It is a kid friendly restaurant with just down right DAMN GOOD FOOD. 5/5. Thank you Sean’s BBQ.

Just had dinner at Shawn’s and will definitely come back. The salad was amazing and the fries were out of this world. I love the Sassy sauce and their ranch. The only downside was the food didn’t come out together but that was only thing. The customer service was impeccable!
