Today my wife and I along with our three children (8y, 11y, 12y) stopped at the Workmen’s Cafe. We were about 50 min away on the other side of Charlestown on vacation. We were looking for great local southern cooking. We were not disappointed.

Y’all come eat, you’ll be glad you did. These ladies can cook! The place is like the loved and forgotten Mimi’s cafe, but with a whole lot of soul. Such a bright sterile environment that’s relaxing to be in. I had the Thursday meatloaf special it was so good with the broccoli casserole, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread for around $10. Every bite was bliss and there’s no way I can fit dinner in now. Thanks to all y’all at workmen’s cafe, y’all awesome!

This place is tucked a bit off of Folly road but it worth grabbing food here. Prices are extremely reasonable. They are careful with covid (signage at door and seating is nicely spread out). Food is delicious and portions are generous. I left very full and my boyfriend who has a huge appetite couldn’t finish everything. I will definitely be back the next time I am craving some good ole southern home cooking!

Can’t wait to return. From the Lima beans, to the fried fish… every bite was amazing. The homemade lemonade was one of the best I ever had. She established this business in 2001, and has done her own thing mainly til this day. Talk about a hard working woman… this is her! #SupportBlackBusinesses

Off the beaten path, working man’s restaurant. These girls are cooking up some of the best fried chicken you’ll ever have. Southern food frenzy

Local friends knew of this place. Everything was great: the people, the food, the prices!! (Photo of Morrocan Chicken. We also had Fried Chicken and Lima Bean Plate.) $49 for 4 meals.

Prices were reasonable, service was very good. I had fried pork chop, bacon fried rice and macaroni & cheese. It was a bit bland, nothing worth my going back for.

Workman’s Cafe is a great James Island meal and experience. Go get some of Angie’s delicious southern food! I’ve been going for years, and the kids love it too. She has different main courses, veggies, and desserts depending on the day of the week. Get the peach cobbler if she has it! The honey butter biscuits are so yummy. True to it’s name, you’ll see local workers eating there for lunch. The building and decor is super simple. I suggest you find this unique little restaurant, and have a great lunch you can’t get anywhere else!! (Would not recommend it for vegetarians since many of the veggies are cooked with meat.)
