Bettola is a casual upscale restaurant located in Birmingham’s Pepper Place. Founded by award-winning chef James Lewis, Bettola offers a wonderful array of foods from the Campania region of Italy in a warm and modern setting.
Here, we honor the farm-to-table tradition by using locally sourced meats and produce to bring fresh flavors to each dish. Customer favorites include our gnocchi, pollo pomodoro, and our charcuterie selections. Our signature Neapolitan pizzas start with dough made from scratch, using Caputo flour flown in from Italy, which is hand-tossed and wood-fired in our authentic brick oven from Naples. We also feature a variety of house-made pastas, roasts, and sautés, and we offer craft cocktails and wines.

An absolute gem in Birmingham! The food was amazing! They make a lot of their own ingredients like the house made pork sausage they use in the carbonara. The place is a really nice venue dressed up or down! Tons of parking right in front of the restaurant.

If you can only eat at one restaurant in Birmingham, eat here! We did, and it was the best choice! Service was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful, from the hosts Marco and Robbie to our server Laura to the manager Noah. The food was fresh, delicious and of high quality. Considering the quality of the food, it is reasonably priced. We came for our 10th anniversary and they made it special. We plan on returning next time we drive through Birmingham because it was that good! Thanks to Noah and the wonderful team.

I came here for a friend’s birthday one night. It was pretty busy, but we had reservations. There were a lot of tables in a tight area to the point where I was very cautious of bumping into people while they were seated. The waiter came to our table maybe three times. Once to take our drink orders and once to take our food orders. He came over one more time after we got his attention. He also did not know a lot about the menu. He didn’t really have recommendations. I’m pretty sure he thought we would tip him well regardless since the food and drinks were expensive, so he didn’t try at all. I got the Carbonara. It was not good. I knew it had mint added to it, but dang, it was like chewing a piece of Spearmint gum. I took a few bites and could not finish it. This is coming from a person part of the clean plate club. It did look beautiful inside though.

We showed up on a windy Thursday evening without a reservation, but we were seated outside (our preference) right away. We got the burrata appetizer, which all enjoyed. The bread was wonderful. For entrees, we had two pizzas – the Margherita and Mascarpone e Prosciutto, and the Buccatini Carbonara. Everything was great, but the Carbonara was everyone’s favorite. That freshly made pasta was absolutely perfect and the flavors were decadent. The space is lovely and service was excellent. We’ll absolutely be back.

Wonderful atmosphere, the bartender was super attentive and a delight to talk to. The calamari was super delicious, and the pizza was great, a must the next time I’m in B-Ham! Although I may have left my backpack… another sign of a good time, people don’t leave things unless they plan to return! And I do! GET THE CALAMARI!!!

Had great meal, the pasta was great and we added sausage to the meals was the perfect addition for flavor. The Burrata was amazing with the homemade bread. I do wish dish special were open at lunch and bit of variety with the menu. Overall everything was tasty and service was great.

I thought the food was just okay and the service was just okay. Our server never once smiled nor did she act like she even wanted to be there. For the price, I would have expected it to be delicious. The atmosphere was nice but with it being so far downtown, I won’t be going back since the food isn’t worth the trip.

Amazing spot downtown! Overall it has an amazing vibe right in the heart of Pepper Place. The burrata is a MUST. We got the pizza and the bolognese – both great! The owner James is the real deal. Great spot!

Maria has been out server the past few times we’ve made it in to Bettola. Every single time we go, burratta is a must order. we try one of their seasonal dishes at least and follow it up with tiramisu and espresso. It’s so good I even take a Funghi Di Bosco to go for lunch and dinner the next day!
