Houndstooth is an absolute gem of a restaurant tucked away in the middle of downtown Benton Harbor. I was able to make a last minute reservation for 2 the night before on the bar table. We opted for the Hamachi Crudo, Black Bean Chicken, Slow Steak with Crunchy Potatoes, and Vanilla Panna Cotta. Though all were terrific dishes, we found the standouts to be the Black Bean Chicken and the Vanilla Panna Cotta.

This was a ticketed event for New Years Eve dinner. 7 courses each paired with wine. Small plate style restaurant with high quality gourmet food selections. Everything was not only delicious but the plating and presentation were beautiful. I highly recommend this restaurant. Nothing else like it in all of SW Michigan.

I have been here twice–the first time, by chance, the second time I went out of my way to get dinner because it’s just that good. Even before my second visit, I told anyone that would listen that they need to visit if they’re ever in the area. Food is stellar and well presented without feeling snooty, the cocktails selection has an option for everyone, and the service is top notch.

This was quite disappointing compared to reviews. We were seated outside on the patio for a 5:30 reservation and it took 5+ minutes for the server to approach the table cuz he had 3 others going. Food was good, but nothing stood out for the prices we were paying. It was a nice experience but not memorable.

I don’t know how this placed slipped under our radar for so long! Really incredible food, especially for this area!! We had 9 different dishes : sunflowers & burrata, short rib tartare, duck wings, BBQ carrots, paccheri, pork shop katsu, milk bread, crunchy potatoes, and sticky toffee pudding. All were delightful but the highlights for me were definitely the milk bread, duck wings, and pork chop. The service was great- this places loves a plate change! The server sent one dish at a time so we were able to spend a good amount of time at the restaurant chatting and enjoying the food and drink. I would also recommend their spring inspired old fashioned as well as the chocolate espresso martini which was not syrupy sweet like at many other establishments. We will definitely be coming back again and again, I’m especially excited to see how their menu changes as the summer brings fresh produce
