We arrived around 6 on Sunday evening with a party of 8. We were seated almost immediately but it took a while to get service. Took 3 trips to get bread, dipping sauce and plates. Then it took a while to get drinks. Food took a long time. Everyone got pasta but our granddaughter who got Caesar salad. She got her salad well after the rest of us were served. When served, it was on a small plate piled high making it hard to apply dressing and eat without falling onto the table. Food was okay. It took a long time to get the check. It was almost 7:30 before we got away and one of our party needed to travel home to Columbia, SC. Sort of a stressful meal.

Don’t let the outside or location decieve you. Once you get in the door the atmosphere and decor are on point; I’d describe it as dark and elegant. The food is fantastic. The lasagna was huge and I only had the lunch portion. Lots of great spices and different cheeses. Presentation on point. The pricing was totally reasonable, almost surprising for how much thought and care is put into the place. Staff was top notch.

The chicken Marsalis was horrible. The chicken wasn’t grilled it tasted boiled or something & my husband also ordered a meal with chicken & he didn’t eat but a couple bites of his chicken either. The texture & the flavor, it didn’t taste right or look right. When I told the waiter we were expecting grilled chicken he went & brought more chicken from the kitchen that looked the same as on my plate but had a few grill marks on it. It still did not taste good but was better than the initial chicken. We ordered side salads for a $4 upcharge as salads don’t automatically come with your pasta dinner like they do at most Italian restaurants. The salads were very small & looked like they were served on a small bread plate so it made it hard not to spill over on the table. They definitely need to invest in some bowls. The service was very slow. Our waiter would just disappear for a while. My husband’s drink was empty before refilled eventually. We paid $50 for 2 people & couldn’t even eat the chicken so basically we paid that for the angel hair pasta that came with the chicken & those tiny side salads. What’s sad the waiter asked if we wanted to go boxes for the chicken that we both didn’t eat after me telling him it wasn’t good.

This is by far the best food I have had that’s been Italian in a long time. Yes to some the food might be a little pricey but it is worth every penny. I think you should pay them a visit, you won’t regret one bit of it. The service was very good, and the setting is so romantic.

In my opinion this is the best restaurant in Hickory. Compared to Italian restaurants I’ve visited over the last 40 years in North Carolina, and Maryland/Virginia/DC (Maryland/Virginia/DC is where we came from before Hickory), I’d say it competes for the top spot with one other Italian restaurant in the DC area I used to frequent. My wife and I have gone to Da Vinci’s at least 75 times over the past 3 years and each and every time it’s been fantastic. My favorites include Shrimp Caprese which is always a work of art, the Da Vinci special pizza, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Marsala, any of the Rissoto dishes, tiramisu, and the excellent wine selection and bar. Everything is great. The restaurant has professional experienced staff– you’ll note many of their waiters and waitresses have been there for many years and understand how to provide a real dining experience. Everyone is always friendly, has a smile on their face, and is focused on you having a nice evening. Hickory is a great place with tons of restaurants but if you want one that offers a consistently professional higher-end dining experience, great atmosphere and can stay in-control when it’s busy and maintain top service levels with a smile, then the list dwindles quickly. You can come to Da Vinci’s at any hour and not worry about ultra-long waits and problems and have a great time.

A great date night dinner spot! We went out to eat after our engagement photos and were not disappointed. All the food was amazing and their delicious pasta is made in house. Our server Lisa was great and made a special night even better. I hope next time we come we get her again!!
