If you are a bean lover, you must visit this one-of-a-kind restaurant that I stumbled upon in downtown. It’s called “Wide Tom’s Bean House” and true to its name, this unique restaurant exclusively serves a variety of beans in various forms.

Hold onto your breakfast hats, because I recently embarked on a wild and bean-filled journey at Wide Tom’s. This place takes beans to a whole new level, making breakfast an unforgettable experience!

I’ve never heard of a more authentic bean experience in my life. I thought I was being pranked! Sure enough though, I walked in, ordered a bunch of bean themed food. I will say that the hot refried beans were a cut above. It took a few tries to get the fire to die down but it was worth every breath

I was in the area on business, and someone at the hotel told me about this place, so I thought I’d stop by and grab some lunch. I decided on the Detroit Special, and I have never had beans this good in my life. I heard Wide Tom in the kitchen singing the Barber of Seville, and the man himself brought the beans and poured them at my table while lamenting the death of the US auto industry. Super nice guy, and as wide as the hotel clerk told me he was. I cannot recommend this place enough, and I’ll be back the next time I pass through!

I stopped into Wide Tom’s for a few quick beers before a Tigers game as we heard about their robust craft beer selection. The draft list was truly impressive. I got a flight and tried the Nitro Black Bean Porter, IPeaA, Sweet Red Bean Sour, Beantoberfest, and Green Bean Gose. Overall I enjoyed each one I tried and would recommend the place to anyone looking to get gassed up before a game or concert. I noticed that they also had more traditional options for those who don’t enjoy craft beer, as the person next to me ordered a Corona with Lima. This is one of the best places I’ve “bean” to recently.

Absolutely best restaurant I’ve ever bean too. My only true complaint is the service, felt like they took a little too long to take my order and seat me. Will say the old time country furniture added an absolute ton to the feel they were clearly going for. As for the food I have to say it was wonderfully. I sat down for a full meal and started off with with some hard boiled beans with a side of pickled beans, which was wonderful. Following that I got myself a full bean sub with extra bean juice and a side of South American bean fries. Then for desert I just absolutely had to the warm bean pie with a scoop of baked bean ice cream. All in all I’d recommend this restaurant to anybody and everybody interesting in consuming food.

Kinda hard to find this place? Apparently the sign keeps falling down behind a bush? Either way I guess you could call it a hidden gem, because the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect. Dark, dimly lit and musty, like you’re in admiral nelson’s navy. Corned beans were great, but somehow managed to taste not vegetarian? I guess that’s the intention?

The beans are, naturally, what everyone talks about. But it’s the burger bar that keeps me coming back. Its… crossover with the resident petting zoo is a unique and endearing feature, especially good for teaching small children about animal husbandry. And of course any establishment with such a gregarious, eccentric and hands-on proprietor deserves a special shout-out.
