This must be what history tastes like. Golden Rule is the oldest barbecue restaurant in Alabama and the preparation is classic. It’s old school delicious!

Service was pretty quick and the restaurant was kinda retro looking. I arrived a half hour before close (they close at 7 pm) so maybe that’s a factor. The pork was overcooked, dry and hard. There was a sauce covering the middle that seemed like ketchup with tomato paste mixed in that was difficult to eat, but masked the lack of flavor in the pork I suppose. The beans were excellent but had stems left on them. The potato salad seemed to me like tartar sauce with potato gravel in it. Maybe I hit a bad time, but not going back to see.

We’ve always liked GR and were curious to see if new owners would change things. It’s still fantastic. The pork plate was divine. Excellent potato salad and beans. Great service too. I think they’re currently the best BBQ joint in town.

I finally got a chance to stop in (10:30am).,,,after 2yrs.and purchase a couple of slabs to take back to memphis (as I told the cashier) 120 miles later checked my order the slabs were completely “over” cooked,,dry as the Mohave desert! $60 gone to waste…

Server, Tasha, was excellent. Food was hit or miss. I loved the loaded baked potato with chopped pork. Kids like their chopped pork sandwich. Others in our party didn’t love the sliced pork or fries. Not Smokey enough (pork) and kind of soggy not enough salt (fries).

Is it the best bbq I’ve ever had – no. But it was still good! Pulled pork sandwich was tender and juicy. Would like a little more flavor. Beef brisket was good – sliced very thin. Bbq chicken was good too. Good sweet tea. Potato salad was a little sweet for my liking. Green beans were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Staff was very friendly and didn’t wait long for our food. Overall I would visit again!

Not the best BBQ, got the beef brisket,it was lukewarm and dry, and so was the spud. The place was full of pictures and history .service was okay, staff was nice but too busy watching TV.

We come in here all the time! I have literally been coming to this location for 40 years! And sadly with the new ownership. the last 5 times I have been there .which I ordered the same 2 things when I go I either get the number 5 pulled pork Sandwich or the original spud and the last 5 visits every single time the pork is barely room temperature yesterday it’s tasted and seemed like it came straight out of the refrigerator. I’m not sure why it’s no longer being served hot but as a regular customer it greatly disappoints me

We were meeting friends from Montgomery and chose this location because of the proximity to their business meeting. The atmosphere was community comfortable, and the service was friendly, but the food was not what I expected it to be. I’ve dined at other Golden Rule restaurants and was pleased with the food, but this one was not up to par.
