A beauty of a gem. Great food, wonderful staff, nice patio and interior. We will most certainly be back. The Blanco queso was delicious. Their green chile was so on. Everything was fresh and just what we needed.

Okay, but nothing particularly stands out. I wouldn’t recommend them to friends nor return. As a New Mexican I expect better taste, I personally found their food a bit bland. But they do have fast service.

Whenever we travel through Albuquerque, we plan a meal there. This trip through we decided to try Monica’s. We were traveling with our dog, so the covered outdoor patio was the deciding factor for us. Everything was delicious and our server was personable and attentive. Definitely on our list of places to go back to.

We decided to eat here while visiting town and at first had a nice experience. The food was great, but when it came time to pay and we asked for separate checks we were rudely told by our waitress to “ask before next time” I understand, however, that is not our job, and if it was an issue to do separate checks, I feel she should have double checked with us first instead of assuming we were paying together. Then, when we went to pay at the front we were berated by ANOTHER waitress about the amount in tips we left. The tip amount was due to the upsetting experience from staff. They were extremely unprofessional and unkind. If I lived in town, I would not come back. For those visiting, be weary of the staff.

My wife & I like trying new restaurants and Monica’s El Portal is one of them. The food was delicious, the green Chile gravy on my chicken fried steak was off the wall. Come to find out that Monica has been making her food homemade for 45 years. Well like they say “if it ain’t broken don’t fix it”. Good job you guys we’ll definitely will be coming back, Thank you

We enjoyed an authentic New Mexican breakfast at Monica’s El Portal Restaurant near Old Town in Albuquerque. We ordered the delicious huevos rancheros, breakfast burger, breakfast burrito, and breakfast stuffes sopapilla. The home made tortillas was a nice touch. We finished our meal with fresh sopapillas and honey. The service was good and the price was reasonable. They also have plenty of parking.

The first time I came into Monicas i ordered chips and salsa. I received a hand full of hair in my chips. Paid for them and left. So I decided to try again. The green chili was watery. I asked for my egg to be cooked over medium and got it over runny…the waitress was having a bad day so she wasn’t very nice nor was she attentive. So when I talked to the cashier, she stated that I was being mean to the waitress. I was not at all mean I was so upset with these people. My experience with this place was unacceptable both times. My sopas were gresey..Never will I go back. And I will tell everyone I know.
