Very simple menu but oh my god! Great burgers and the side of potatoes is awesome! Got the Smokey bbq and ranch sauce, super tasty! Good size and quality food highly recommend!

A couple of stars for the exceptionally friendly bartenders that were attentive as we waited over an hour for food on a Saturday night. As busy as it was, I cannot fathom over an hour wait for burgers. The lifeless woman working the register made no mention of how long the wait would be. There must be some kitchen dysfunction for these types of wait times. Burgers were decent copious amounts of beef. The beef fat fried potatoes are simply a waste. Clumps of unseasoned overcooked dried out potatoes…an absolute failure. For $16 + $1 for uninspired fry sauce I felt like I could have done a lot better.

Best burger I’ve ever had, hands down. The beef was top notch and all the fixings tasted fresh with a lot of flavor. They also didn’t skimp on the pickles which was wonderful. I was skeptical on the fried potatoes but those were a rock solid alternative to fries. And with that horseradish mayo to dip them in? Incredibly tasty. Seriously…as someone who is only a visitor to Helena my chief concern is that the burger I had at Old Salt is going to ruin every burger I try to eat in the future.

Old Salt Outpost is awesome. What a clever way to run a business; you can go to the counter first, order a burger, get a number, select a table. Then you can go to the separate bar at the back, order a drink (or two) and hang out at your table until they deliver your food to your table. Really appreciated the casual-ness of the place, especially as a tourist. Burgers were VERY good. Fries were great. Loved their homemade sauces. Wish we could have spent more time here!

Fantastic concept. Love the farm to table aspect. But if you’re looking to showcase your farm’s high quality beef, then you need to not cook the patties to a char – especially as thin as they are. These were like chewing thin briquettes. Overall our meal had high quality ingredients, but everything was over-cooked.

I’ve eaten an embarrassing amount of burgers from this place they’re seriously addicting. The fact that there’s only a few items on the menu makes it my dream restaurant because everything is always fresh and consistent. I hope other places follow suit with the tallow fried potatoes they’re incredible especially with their house made bbq sauce. My only complaint is that it’s in a bar- so not super family friendly, in my opinion, but we just order to-go instead.

If you’re going to get a burger from there to stick to a single Burger. There’s not enough fun on the sandwich to go with a double cheeseburger which I thought I’d try. Wish I wouldn’t have. Just a thought to everyone out there. Other than that I cannot complain service was phenomenal. Especially nice to see our young adults treating their elders with respect is always nice to!

Food: burgers are decent, but for $12, I’d like a little more than a small-medium smash burger. The potatoe (things- whatever they are) taste like dirt. I’ve had to have OS food several times (not my choice) and they always taste like they were pulled straight from the earth and fried. The sauces are very watery and bland.

Do not sleep in this place! This is hands down one of the best burgers my wife and me have had in Montana. Perfectly cooked with great fried potato. The fry sauce that was served with it was also amazing. Not to expensive with fast and friendly service as well. We will absolutely be back!

I remember going to the place a long time ago. It is way better now. The burger was awesome. The potatoes were a little salty, but I enjoyed my food. I can’t wait to take me kids.
