Nelly Latin Restaurant (formally named Cilantro) Amazing Latin (Puerto Rican / Dominican) food! Some of the best mofongo and pernil ever tasted outside of the islands. Pasteles are on point! Food is consistently flavorful and fresh and not too salty. The service could not be more perfect: always on time, with great quality food served by the kindest owners prices are super affordable (The combo specials are the best – 2 or 3 eat for $20) with very generous portions

I came here from the likes of loving the mini combo at “El Valle” and being a regular there, so I assumed that all Dominican spots would be able to at least match the quality of a simple meal. That was my first mistake. I’ve also seen other Nellys, but strayed away due to the reviews. But, you never know until you try right? That was my second mistake. While the lady who made the food was very nice, I wish I could say the same about the meal. The rice was alright, but tasted like it had been sitting for a while. I’m assuming it was, due to the fact that the place was very empty. The beans weren’t very well seasoned, nor did it have that “soupy” feel that to it that I love (I used to always request extra of it poured over the rice at El Valle – If you’re in BX you know what that restaurant is). The beans here, were actually mushy and looked like a paste. The 1/2 chicken was very dry and it did have SOME seasoning but it wasn’t the best. However, being that I paid my hard earned money for this, I ate it since I didn’t want it to go to waste. I will not be returning and the lunch combo was very lackluster. I know now why most Nellys I’ve past by are always empty and why most reviews at almost all of them aren’t good.

This place has amazing Dominican food for an excellent value. The tostones are crisp and made to order. The pernil is perfection. Excellent empanadas. Quick service. I recommend calling or going in person to order. They do not make everything on the menu everyday. They are ready made in a case cafeteria style. The empanadas and tostones are made to order.
