If you are from the UP, you know pasties are the great comfort food with alot of history dating back to the miners. If you are from this area it’s a big debate of which place offers the best pasties. I am lucky my wife is from Iron Mountain Michigan and had an opportunity to stop by Jean Kay’s. There are several in the area but I would have to say Jean Kay’s is one of the best. The pasties are made fresh with good quality ingredients. The crust is super flaky. I ended up getting 8 pasties to bring back to VA. A must stop if you are in Iron Mountain. Don’t take my word for it. Try a pasty and find out.

The food from this place must be infused with magic! The ladies in charge were so friendly and accommodating as well. The pasties were so good we had to come back for more the next day. Perfect place to stop in while traveling for a quick bite to eat!

Jean Kay’s Pasties are definitely among my top 5 favorite pasty shops in the UP! The lady working was very nice and helpful. The pasties were delicious and filing. First time trying a steak one, very good! I bought them half baked and brought them home to cook. My house smelled so good for hours after

Got some flank steak and rutabaga pasties, and came back for breakfast to get a sausage one, delicious all around and a great experience. Will be returning on our way back through the UP!

Abouit 100 years ago, my grandparents operated a little lunch counter/cafe at the location where Jean Kay’s is now located. My dad told me that Grampa had a daily blue plate special, steak, and pasties…and apple pie. Although Grampa lost the business in the depression, he kept making pasties. I remember them as having steak, potato and onion. Although, rutabaga, or swede, as they’re known in Cornwall, are tradiionally an ingredient in a Cornish pasty, Grampa didn’t use them. I was ecstatic when I stopped at Jean Kay’s last week and found that the steak pasty has cubes of staek (not ground!!!!), potato and onion. Perfection in a pastry shell. The pastry was sturdy enough to hold the ingredients, but wasn’t tough and was crimped on the side as pasties ought to be. Truely the best pasty I’ve had at ANY pasty shop in the UP, and better than most I had when visiting Cornwall. THANK YOU

Lady inside was lovely and helpful. We were first time pasty eaters… Also probably last time pasty eaters – but through no fault of the pasty lady herself… It’s maybe an acquired taste??

Excellent tasting pasty. Real flank steak. I haven’t had one this good in years. Thank goodness I stopped to try one as I traveled through town.
