The owners are great people and very friendly regardless if you are a local or first timer. I went with a local that is a frequent visitor and the food is amazing our waitress was the best hands down. Definitely will be going back. I only wish I had purchased a t shirt while I was there.

We were on our way to Madison, IN for no reason at all when we decided to stop in at the only open, local restaurant for miles. We had the “boneless wings” (can we just start calling them boneless bites?) lightly breaded in house, we went Nashville Hot. The fried green tomatoes, plated and sauced wonderfully, were also A+ work. The mozz sticks pleased my child. She says they were mid but fried cheese is still fried cheese. The general consensus was they weren’t up to the quality of the other food, but the bar was set high. The hand breaded tenders entree was just as good as the bites, the mac and cheese got mixed reviews but I enjoyed it. I got the black and blue salad, which includes a burger patty chunked up. Delicious. My wife got the grilled cheese and chili, which looked to be too much bread but upon chomping, was light and crusty and delightful. The chili had lots of meat, not too many beans, and not a noodle in sight. Amen.

I had the salad with fruit/pecans over the weekend with grilled chicken. First it was $17 expensive. The chicken was bland with no seasonings. No salt or pepper. The lettuce was big chunks torn from a head of lettuce. Definitely was very disappointed. It was awful. Ate only a few bites. And when I walked in; you couldn’t tell who was working and who wasn’t. They looked at me funny. A lady sitting at a table eating ask me if I had a to go order???? I ate here about a year ago and it was amazing. But never again. Will stay with bp gas station for meals.

We are from Illinois visiting our son in Kentucky. We stopped in for lunch. The Hubbs Club is delicious as well sweet potato fries. Fried green tomatoes were well worth every penny. If you live in or around New Castle it is worth a weekly visit.

Stopped today around 12:30. Sorry to say we didn’t eat – sat for a bit before the server acknowledged us, ordered drinks, (I had the WORST powdered ice tea I’ve ever had, with hardly any ice), and ordered lunch – a patty melt and chicken tenders. After 40 minutes we left, no drink refills offered or brought to the table and I needed a water to wash away the nasty tea taste, and still no food. I did leave cash for the drinks, but I don’t know or care what they might have done with our lunch, if it ever was prepared. We’re not from the area, we were just out for a drive and like to stop in local places. We’ve found some real gems but this place was a dud.

So let me just start with saying that I have eaten here several times and had a great experience. Today was horrible. Worst customer service experience ever. This was honestly the first time in my life that I didn’t leave a tip. Got the fish special. The fish was great. I asked for extra Tarter. Without looking I turned it to put it on my fish sandwich, it came out watery and runny. It ruined my fish. I asked our server, Taylor, if there was any way to get another piece of fish. It didn’t taste right. She said well it might be because the tarter was frozen or not mixed well. She walked away. Came back and said that the manager told her that she couldn’t replace my fish but could take 10% off. That if I wanted another piece of fish that I would have to buy it. That since the kitchen didn’t mess up they couldn’t just give me a free piece of fish. I had 2 bites of my fish. It was almost whole. It was ruined by the tarter sauce. She was very rude. I walked up to the counter and asked her if she could please take off the fish. I shouldn’t have to pay for something that I didn’t eat. She told me your free to go. I sat back at the table with my friend and waited for her check. She brought both checks to the table. She looked at me and said that if I don’t want to pay that’smy problem, that it isn’t her problem or the money isn’t coming out of her pocket. She said that she is 6 months pregnant and not going to argue with me. So unprofessional. So we paid and left. We won’t be back. This place used to be great.

Friendly service, the tavern hot brown and tavern pretzels with smoked gouda beer cheese and spicy bourbon mustard was awsome. I highly recommend New Castle Tavern!

Based on my own experience I wish I could give them 3.5 stars, but it wouldn’t have been fair to give them only three. I wasn’t really hungry, but I was with friends, so I just ordered the most modestly priced menu item just to be polite. I got the house made chips for five bucks. They were terrible, I only ate a few. They weren’t crisp. They were like leather and had so much garlic they didn’t taste good. Let me emphasize that everybody else’s food looked great and if I had gotten anything else I may have given a five star rating. The atmosphere was fine. It’s a tavern that serves alcoholic beverages including hard liquor but is popular with diners who seemed to make up most of their business and didn’t seem like a place where people were going to get smashed. I wouldn’t hesitate to take my children there. The place isn’t cheap, I am including a couple of pictures of the menu.
