WEIRDEST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. Prior to reading any reviews, my husband and I were interested in sushi this evening and came in thinking it was a lovely modest spot. As we came in the smell of pine wood filled the space which we quickly concluded was from all the rough tables hand built and construction of this ‘restaurant’ was newly made. We didn’t mind the appearance at all so we sat down although not greeted on entry, still optimistic although the atmosphere was confusing within seconds. I could hear a pin drop despite a pair of folks who were sitting at the opposite table. Unclear if this was more formal or simply casual since the music in the back was a low volume pop radio station we sat quietly as the waiter which was the chef & ‘only’ employee – smiled, said nothing and gave us menus on clipboards. He seemingly laughed to himself in silence while we picked from a pricy menu ($12 or more for a roll to $89 options if you were leaning to platters). We picked 2 rolls and while the chef made the food and anyways it felt so…bizarre. And as another group entered after us who asked to sit at the bar, the waiter/chef denied them without an explanation. We offers them to sit with us but it was a bit awkward since we were shoulder to shoulder. We received salad and soup uninformed or requested when ordering but we took it graciously thinking it was like beginner appetizers with the sushi. Although the food was very fresh and quite good – it wasn’t worth 12 pieces for $36. I simply don’t recommend this place. Reviews are either awful or amazing and it’s an absolute gamble, I guess we weren’t lucky but we certainly won’t be back.

This place may not be racist but the man working on 05/18 definitely was. I was eating with two friends inside late when a black man walked in and received very poor service from the man working. So bad in fact that he asked us all to leave for a meeting before he was even finished eating. Then told us we couldn’t stand on his sidewalk. Sushi might be good here but I wouldn’t eat here if you’re black or support black people.

A new sushi restaurant has opened in Portland and let me be the first to tell you how good it is. Beautifully presented rolls that taste as good as they look. They had low priced specials available for lunch and the prices were reasonable over all. I recommend you give it a try!

DO NOT GO HERE! — 90% of the positive reviews are fake. I made the mistake of going in late night and not double checking the reviews. Upon arriving I was hit with multiple red flags

Weirdest experience ever. The furniture is literally unfinished wood so it’s likely you’ll get a splinter and smells like Home Depot wood cutting station. on top of that, it’s a really inaccessible place to navigate and sit. No music playing and no one was there. When we tried to order 2 miso soups because we didn’t realize the prices were ridiculously high and didn’t want to seem rude just leaving after he made us hot tea. When we tried to order the soups, he laughed and said he would lose money doing that. So we left.

We had an amazing experience at this restaurant. At first the unusual space and style of service was offputting but we were quickly put at ease by the incredibly fresh and beautifully presented sushi. The food was incredible and the experience truly unique. The focus here is on the food. Everything is served in to-go containers and drinks are BYOB. It’s casual and the meal came with delicious add ons that were not on the menu.

Horrible customer service. My friend and I walked in it was dead quiet/no music and no customers which didn’t seem entirely weird at first. The place was full of un treated wood furniture and VERY in accessible to get around the tables or sit. The wood seemed easy to get a splinter and seems dirty.

Stopped by with my partner and got a couple rolls to share, everything tasted amazing and the fish was really fresh tasting compared to a lot of places I’ve tried. I ate it too fast to take pictures! Can’t wait to come in more often!

The server told us to leave after they served salad and miso soup because they had “to make deliveries” and then 20 minutes later said he had “customers coming with reservations.” We weren’t being slow, and hadn’t got our food yet. He didn’t mention anything when we walked in at 12:30, but at 1:15 brought our meal in takeout boxes and said we had to leave. They did not ask the other group to leave, even though they did not have reservations either. There’s also no way to make online reservations, so we didn’t understand the reservation explanation. Server was pushy and not apologetic, and made up multiple excuses about why we had to leave. “This is all I can do for you, have a good day.” Food was ok, but not great. Food looked like it was sloppily thrown into takeout boxes. Bad customer service overall and our drinks were never brought out either. The server was surprised when we asked about a discount, even though they forced us to leave without eating. Not a place I would invite family or guests, and have never had a bad dining experience anywhere else around Portland. Try Sushi & Maki, our favorite spot.

repeating what another reviewer said – the chef ( that was the only person there today so also our server) appears to be on the autism spectrum – knowing this in advance might help you (we learned reading during our meal). As you’ll read below – our experience was excellent.
