Sushi Katsu-ya is lively Japanese restaurant. The food is excellent. The sushi is well-balanced and the sushi rice was made perfectly. Extremely fresh fish with creative rolls and bento boxes. It is more suitable for a slightly more upscale lunch or dinner given its prices. This is not fast food sushi.

Baked Crab Roll – Crab and imitation crab were alright, but I think they forgot to include the dynamite sauce, so it was rather plain (just a basic roll with crab inside).

The staff is super friendly and helpful. They checked in the perfect amount of times and they’re very warm and inviting. The pop corn shrimp roll (can’t remember the real name) was so good. It sounded weird and I tried out of curiosity not expecting it to not be amazing but it seemed different. I’m glad I got it as its absolutely delicious. You can shell out some more dough to replace the shrimp with lobster. Gotta try that next time.

I think we got unlucky this visit, training a line worked slowed down our order, although somehow two customers who arrived much later then us were served first. Sushi texture was a bit softer, almost fluffy, compared to most other rolls I have had. There is an extra fee to slice your rolls. I had never heard of eating sushi like a burrito before. So it was all acceptable, but I did not find it outstanding. The Cajun salmon roll was pretty tasty. Vegetarian rolls seemed very small.

Good quick service, there were some miscommunications with our servers but they were nice about it.

As far as sushi places go this was just alright. Very limited menu and the sushi was just ok, but I would recommend the sunset roll as my favorite of the ones we got. The creamy popcorn shrimp was delicious and a winner all around.

Went to get the kaisen don lunch special, but they don’t have that any more so got sushi bento instead.

Update 8/2023: Most of the original sushi chefs are gone and menu changed around 1 month ago. The new menu is more limited and way pricier. The food is still okay, but not as good as it was. Nigiri fish is too thick now.
