We were craving Chinese takeout tonight and I didn’t feel like driving to our favorite restaurant, (Fire Wok), at Vilano Beach. I remembered reading that a new family from Chicago took over the China Wok in the Winn-Dixie North Plaza and decided to give them a try. I was honestly a little nervous as this place used to have, IMO, the worst Chinese food in all of St. Augustine. I have given them a few chances over the years and the food was always terrible.

Chicken fried rice has extremely white chicken in it, like it’s boiled, or maybe not chicken(?) The bourbon chicken is NOT like the mall bourbon chicken whatsoever. We weren’t a fan. Also not a fan of the sauce used on the noodles. The wontons were good, came with sweet and sour sauce. I ordered 8 count and got 9. The prices on their menu are LOWER than actual. See my ticket against the menu. It’s close to home but I don’t think we’ll be back.

Yesterday I went to the Chinese wok again! I found out they change new owner!They are a nice family! There were three boys in the restaurant and joey new owner told me that they used to run a restaurant in Chicago and moved here so they could have a better environment for kids! We are so happy to have them! Come back, we ordered shrimp Lo Mein, Mongolian beef spring rolls! It tastes different. It’s delicious! So they improved the suace ! I ordered delivery for lunch today. It arrived quickly and everything was hot and delicious. The delivery driver was kind to drop the food off at my door and wave/thank me from the bottom of my porch steps.

This is a take out style Chinese restaurant. They have a bathroom and it was open. The staff was warm and welcoming. I ordered a lunch special that comes with can of soda and rice. Kung Pao chicken with plenty of fresh vegetables and a good spice. I asked for extra spicy and it was. I did not need to use the chili paste I was given to ensure it was to my heat level. Egg roll was very tasty and had the right flavor.
