Went to eat here while visiting the park. We were very impressed!! We asked the waitress how long the wait to get food would be and explained that we only had around 30 minutes. She told us they would get it out by then and they got it out less than 20 minutes after ordering! She was super nice and the food was literally amazing. I got the vegetarian pasta and it was so creamy and delicious. I definitely recommend!!

This was actually our first stop. We carbed up at the breakfast buffet. There was an omelette station and a station for pancakes and waffles . We tried the omelette and waffles. It was okay nothing great. We reached there around 10 so the place was pretty much empty. They had some great options like the turkey hash, sausages, breads and the usual breakfast spread.

We went around 2:30pm a few days after Kilauea erupted in June of 2023, had to wait 5 minutes for a table right by the window, had a lovely view of the crater, and service was fairly fast.

Good was great, but the view was even better! The fish and chips were delicious and the kids chicken katsu meal was huge for a kid portion! Stop in here to eat while you’re at the park to save a trip out if you’re pressed for time!

Uncle Georges had good food and amazing views of the volcano, however the amazing evening was overshadowed by the host, who was very rude and unprofessional. It’s a shame he is the first interaction guests have with the restaurant staff. The bartender was also rude and we overheard him saying some unkind things about the other patrons as we waited for our table. In stark contrast was our waitress, who was very friendly and attentive. I really wish I could remember her name, as she was the saving grace of our dinner. I feel bad that she works around such unkind coworkers. I understand that dealing with tourists day in and day out can be draining, but I think some of the staff here could do well with some hospitality training.

The drinks were good, the food was pretty meh. The fish sandwich seemed like the best option our group got. It was a large piece of fish and ended up falling apart. The fried fish was okay, not anything special. The kalua pork was quite dry and bland. Two giant balls of plain white rice seemed unnecessary, but I guess it’s a Hawaiian thing.

The lounge at Volcano House is a winner because hey, what other place can say it’s located on an actually erupting volcano?

The location, the service, and the food are quite remarkable here. It reminds me more of Europe than it does of America, in that you have a wonderful eating establishment tucked in the mountains beside a trail. Tim is an outstanding bartender and an asset to the whole Big Island.

Walked right in with no reservations on a weekday around 1:30. Got sat by a window with a view of the crater and felt fortunate. Food was solid (3-4 stars) and portions were generous. Cute presentation with the fries in a little basket. Appreciated the mocktails on offer and local sodas. Good selection of offerings on the menu. Service was efficient. Glad to have this spot for decent, filling food while visiting this national park. It’s located just a short walk across the street from the main visitor’s center and gift shop in the Volcano House hotel.

After seeing the volcano we had worked up an appetite and found Uncle George’s Lounge. It was fairly busy and it showed in the service.
