Islander 71 Fish House and Deck Bar Menu – Isle of Palms, SC

Type : Seafood restaurant

Location : Isle of Palms, SC

Islander 71 is a nod to the easy going beach life of the Isle of Palms in the 1970’s. Taking you back to when kids rode bikes freely, Dads drank beer on the beach and Moms sunbathed to a golden brown. Afternoons were spent crabbing on the dock, or catching Reds at flood tide. Dinner was a gathering time for friends and family to share succulent seafood and fruity drinks. Laughter and good vibes were in the air as the sky turned into a mango sunset. Welcome to Islander 71.

Best place to see the sunset! Great view and food! It was super busy and I know the staff were hustling. Our server was so friendly! He tried to remember all of our orders (party of 6) and it was busy- he got 5 right which was way better than I could have done but it was just kind of a bummer waiting for them to get the right dish out. Fun, lively place. Will be back

Wonderful dining experience from start to finish! Ordered the Wreck Fish, which came on a bed of risotto! It was perfectly cooked and tasted incredible. Also had a smash burger with cheese and (two thick strips of) bacon. The burger came on a brioche bun with a lot of fries fries. It was a great burger. The dessert was a mini chocolate peanut butter pie and was so delicious! They do everything really well here. And don’t cut corners. The staff were outstanding. Well done!

So I am updating my last post because tonight changed my previous opinion of this restaurant. First, I can’t say enough about the location. Breathtaking views. The restaurant has a cool coastal vibe. So relaxing! Sunsets are amazing. Service outstanding. I have the fresh catch which was Mahi and I loved it. Could have been seasoned a bit more for my taste but very good! We had the lobster roll, flounder sandwich. Fried shrimp and the crab dip. We had key lime pie and banana pudding. Wonderful!

Friendly & relaxing dining on the water along with great views. We enjoyed ourselves with our friends, and each had a different deliciously prepared seafood dish. We all agreed we would return, reccomend as a laid-back fun option either for lunch or dinner.

Girls night out with sunset views? Check. Family visiting from out of town and wanted dining inside the restaurant? Check. Afternoon cocktails and appetizers by the third floor bar watching a lightening storm? Check. I’ve been here three times in the last month/month and a half and we will be going again for dinner this weekend for a work event. Casual to date night dining. We love it here. We’ve seen kids and dogs enjoying the lawn area and games. The food is always top notch. The drinks are light for a hot, hot day and made with fresh ingredients. It’s a great place for boat and people watching. We even saw a couple of dolphins going up and down the way. Staff are pleasant and knowledgeable. There is a man and woman who work the upstairs bar almost every time we’ve been and they’re always so fun to chat with. Try the tequila mojito for sure!

What a shame that this place doesn’t live up to its atmosphere. I really had high hopes, but was immediately disappointed when my flounder sandwich came out and it was nowhere near what it should have been for the price. It was as if they took a normal flounder filet, cut a quarter of it off, and stuck it between two halves of a roll that was 3x the thickness. Adding insult to injury, my wife had the shrimp and grits which we laughed was a child’s portion. Our kids had more of a serving of food than we did for a fraction of the cost. All in all, we spent $90 on what mostly should be considered appetizers. I’m not sure which level of cuisine they’re shooting for, but if I’m going to spend that amount of money then I’ll just go to a nicer spot. Avoid this cleaner version of Red’s if you’re wanting an actual meal for the price.

What a let down! I am a local and had family and friends in town and decided to try this place out for the first time. I could have taken them anywhere in Charleston with our plethora of great restaurants, but really had high hopes for islander 71. We had a party of 12 and came in on Tuesday the 29th And decided to sit outside. First off, the bartender seemed to dislike her job as her attitude was nothing but negative and it was as if we were bothering her. It started to rain so we moved inside and then sat there for 30 minutes before anyone even came around . There was no apology or anything. After some confusion on what we ordered, we finally got our meal, which was nowhere near the value that should have been there in accordance with the prices they were charging. I was actually embarrassed that I recommended this place to family and friends and will never go again. Really is a shame, considering how pretty the building is and the setting.

Wonderful view. Great sunny day. The place is so popular and you have so many people there. And that’s wonderful. However it’s so noisy that I can’t hear the person across the table from me: (… So the conversation is rather light… Flounder sandwich was so delicious and service was wonderful.

My young family of four had an excellent lunch experience at the Islander. Our flounder sandwiches were delicious, and our server, John, deserves recognition by management for his friendliness and attentiveness to our needs. The water views are also unmatched. I highly recommend this place!
