My mom and I were so hungry and this was an impromptu decision to stop at Surf’s Up South Shore Restaurant. This was our first visit there. First off the service was awesome, as the owner was having to cover the areas of cook and cashier. The food was lovingly cooked to order. While we waited for our food the owner/cook/cashier blessed us with a full serving sample of the Fried Biscuits. OMG … biting into these warm biscuits was darn near euphoric (I’m not kidding)! To me it was like the perfect balance between a biscuit and donut, with a sprinkling of powdered sugar. I even think I saw and tasted a hint of cinnamon. I definitely wanted more! Next up, we got to sample about a tablespoon full of delicious dirty rice. For my order I got the three wing special. They were perfectly seasoned with the perfect crunch. I was allowed to swap out the french fries for a serving of red potatoes instead. Mmm… these were soft and delicious. Since I love Fried Green Tomatoes I ordered the thin slice, as you have the option of thick or thin. The tomatoes were just right with the seasoning and corn meal. My mom ordered the fried Whiting fillets. I got to tase a piece and it too was delicious. I would eat there again.

Glad I decided to give this restaurant a try. Had the catfish fillet dinner with fresh cut fries. It was one of the best catfish dinners I had at any restaurant period. The fish was seasoned and cooked to perfection and the fries were hot, crispy, and fresh. Will definitely be back and also recommend this place to friends/family.

The moment I walked in the restaurant it was extremely clean. The owner was very friendly he explained his menu and how everything is freshly made. He even gave me some beignets to try while my food was being freshly cooked. the Hennessy chicken was juicy and fried just right, the cheesy grit was cook perfect and I’ll definitely return. The area looked safe and well lit so no worries.

I came in for the fried lobster that is advertised in the window. They were out of lobster. I feel if that is the main item you’re pushing, you should never run out of lobster. I did get the shrimp tacos. It was good, but pricey for the quality of the shrimp.

Such a great little seafood spot by the end of the Lakeshore Path! The fried shrimp were so fresh and crispy, and you must do the fried biscuits – like beignets, but better!

Everything was good From the Hennessy Wings to them fried biscuits They have a bomb on the Dirty rice . The restaurant is very clean and the gentleman taking orders was Patient and respectful to their customers. Definitely got a faithful customer!! Food was incredible

Overall, a pleasant experience. Hennessy wings were a tad small, but delicious. Dirty rice was delicious. I regret not asking them NOT to fry my perch hard. They were fried HARD. But, that’s my fault. I didn’t specify. Good flavor, though. My wife loved the fried biscuits and wings with lemon pepper. We will definitely return again!

So happy I came across this restaurant. The shrimp & grits is so tasty. Very reasonable prices . The fried green tomatoes are tangy and fresh. Eat them while hot to get the full flavor profile. I’ll be taking this trip down lake shore drive any day.
