Amazing food! I had the Caribbean Fusion and it’s the best tasting food I’ve had at a restaurant in a very long time. Absolutely everything was delicious. The tortillas are handmade and the cilantro lime sauce is very tasty. Excellent portions Service is great and the location is cozy. We left very satisfied. A++. Oh, the habanero sauce is legit spicy. I have a fairly high tolerance for spicy food and this was up there on the spicy meter for sure. But it was still delicious and it didn’t stop me from devouring it. Looking forward to trying their breakfast.

Gourmet tamales is a fusion-based restaurant. The way the tamales are served here is not your typical Mexican cuisine, beware of that. Tamales are a staple Latin American food and are pretty straightforward and simple. At this restaurant they put a lot of spins and twists on them to reinvent the humble tamales in order to cater to the inexperienced American taste. Think of it as if a Southerner from Arkansas moved to Mexico and opened up a gourmet biscuits and gravy restaurant. Biscuits and gravy are simple and straightforward but how many different ways could you prepare them in order to wow a population that knows nothing-to-very-little about Southern cooking? Some of your fellow Southerners might even find it ridiculous and offensive that you would tamper with such a dear, staple dish so as to add pineapple, chicken or ketchup to biscuits and gravy or whatever your idea of gourmet B&G might be. That’s what is being done here. So, just know not to expect tamales with coleslaw, etc., anywhere else in Jonesboro. This is not a common thing. Having said that, this is a novel idea for a Mexican restaurant and the tamales are good. The masa is moist and the filling is generous and not dry. They are thinner and longer than your typical tamales. They also serve tacos, street tacos, breakfast (all day), appetizers and dessert tamales. Dessert tamales are very much common throughout all of Mexico. This is not a fusion-based offering unique only to this restaurant although I didn’t try them here so I don’t know what kind of atypical, extra stuff they might put on them. The salsa and beans that comes with the chips is average or a little below average but that is my opinion. The beans weren’t very seasoned or flavorful and the salsa tastes like something from Sam’s. Not a favorite. Maybe they will adjust the flavor on these things. The restaurant is located in the old Truly Asian spot in the plaza behind Outback Steakhouse. The sign isn’t very descriptive even tho I knew where it was, it was still a little hard to pinpoint. The restaurant is large and spacious and the decor is nice, not kitschy or overdone. It is not your stereotypical Mexican restaurant furniture and that is nice. Service was good, the restaurant was not busy. I will come back again and try more things, although the plain tamales are what I prefer, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. However, I think this will cater to the certain taste buds in Jonesboro. I wish them success and

Had the Barbacoa Tamal and it was so good! Very fresh ingredients, and the masa was very moist and not dried out like a lot of the tamales I get locally. I will be visiting often to try more of their menu.

Vegan options!!! My husband gets the vegan bean tamales and I get the spinach tamales. The plantain are perfectly delicious. We also get the Mexican rice.

The refried beans and chip were excellent. Be on the look out for the chorizo! Excellent. Available tomorrow. The carribean fusion was excellent. The rice was fluffy and packed with flavor. The jersey chicken was moist and delicious. Plantains were perfect. Hubs barbacoa was great. Great mix of flavors and textures. Service was excellent. Will definitely be back!

Good variety of upscale tamales as you would expect. The flavor of everything was good but a bit short of spectacular and spices are somewhat subdued.

The food was good. The waitress was friendly. My issue with this restaurant was the wait time and quality of service received. Came in explaining to the waitress that my family had already ate dinner but wanted to try their tamales & if we liked them, take some frozen ones home to eat later. We shared one, liked it and placed an order for several frozen ones. I fully expected them to just grab some out the freezer and quickly send me on my way. I was there for 40 minutes. Between the waitress not telling them I wanted frozen tamales, and them having to defrost them because they didn’t keep them separated until frozen nor wrap them in foil, the wait time was way too long. Again, the waitress was very kind but good customer service is different and was lacking. Because of their kindness, they’re definitely worth another try. I really hope they improve and are able to grow their business.
