Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! We attended the Luau while staying at Aulani. The day of our luau, it rained right before time for check-in, so we had to stand in line for about 30 minutes while they wiped down tables and chairs and got set up. But they had cast members come through the line to explain the situation and they did push everything back so the kids still had time to do the activities before the luau started. The food was delicious and plenty was offered. The desserts were so good!! The drinks were good and alcoholic drinks were included with the cost for adults! The luau itself was very entertaining and I am so glad it was a traditional luau with an appearance by Mickey and Minnie! We had general admission (preferred was sold out) and I would recommend paying the higher price for the preferred seats. We had decent views but the kids would have been able to see better with the better seats.

Pleasantly surprised by the luau hosted at Aulani. The entertainment was great and they were no slow parts so our two kids stayed engaged. Food was good and plentiful. We did not pay for the preferred seating so we were seated after all of those guests but did arrive a half hour early to ensure we would have enough time for lei making, the henna tattoos, ukulele lesson, poi making lesson and pictures. The music was good and found the story telling woven into the overall performance was decent. Honestly didn’t feel like there was a bad table to be seated at. We ended up in the middle right by one of the smaller stages in the aisle. For the kids they provided bento boxes that were pre-portioned. The bar staff quick and consistently asking if we would like more drinks. We would do it again and we would stick with the general seating again.

OMG! This luau was so awesome. Definitely Disney quality. You can read other peoples description of the evening. It is spot on. It was so fun experiencing the pre-luau activities. Temporary tattoo, flower lei bracelet, ukulele lesson. Crushing taro

Our top priorities were food, entertainment quality, and drinks included/open bar. We wanted to get the VIP/preferred seating and your seating is assigned and is assigned based on the order of booking. Keep in mind that the booking of this luau is through a 3rd party, and the actual performers and show is a contracted company as well. So it will not be Disney employees, but you know it will be Disney quality. The check in for the VIP is at 4:55pm. The general seating check in begins at 5:10pm. We were lei’d with a nut lei. The children got maui fish hook necklaces. A performer came out and blew the conch. We were told one digital download is included in the VIP package per party. We got our photo taken with some of the performers from the show, and we were given a photopass card for the digital download. When I went on the website, they had taken 4 photos of us and all were available for free digital download (your mileage may vary on this). There were about 5 rows of tables deep and about 5 rows of tables wide, with about 10 people per table, so you were on the lawn with you and about 250 of your closest friends. The tables were arranged farmhouse style so you will have strangers sitting on either side of you. The welcome drink for adults was the Kawaa sunset. The kids welcome drink was a blue vanilla pineapple juice drink. There is an open bar that is included in admission for all. The VIP section does have servers coming around though asking if you need anything. There was a wrist lei station. They had a temporary tattoo station with 4 different patterns to choose from. There was a taro pounding station The last station was a ukulele station. Before they dismiss tables for dinner, you get a quick cameo from Mickey and Minnie! They invite you to do a hula with them. There are two sides to the buffet and they are exactly the same. The food was definitely one of the highlights of the experience. There were so many options! The kids were given a huge bento box with a sampling of things from the buffet. The kids all seemed to enjoy their box. The servers came around promptly to clear plates and gather drink orders. We also ordered the blue Hawaiian drink (just okay) and the mai tai. The mai tai was the home run here. They had a small selection of other liquors and a small wine and beer selection as well as juice and sodas. The show started exactly at 7pm. The live band played in the background the entire time, and the singer sung most of the songs. He also was the one who was telling the stories between the numbers. The singer was absolutely amazing, Broadway quality. All of the performers were extremely talented and were amazing dancers. Each number had a different costume or props. The two most interesting numbers were the Tahiti number which is what you think of with the hips shaking, and the finale with the fire. They were twirling the fire and tossing the fire sticks. It was awesome! Definitely the best part. They had the main stage, then two table rows out they had a platform, and then two more rows out they had two more platforms. So even if you got stuck in the back, you could still have some singular performers up close. We were in the second row which was actually perfect because we had a great up close view of the performer on the platform as well as a great view of the main stage. The show ended exactly at 8pm. The performers stuck around on the lawn for a little meet and greet. Also, if you parked, remember to bring your parking ticket with you to get validated. Only the servers can do the validation so remember to ask one of the servers at some point. Overall this was a great luau experience, especially for someone who has a first trip to Hawaii. The unlimited drinks was a huge plus. The production value, and the show and performance quality was top notch. The musicians, singers, and performers were all very professional and talented. Overall I would highly recommend this luau as the total package.

If you do any luau here… do this one at Aulani. When aulani first opened they had a luau of sorts on the lawn on some nights with music and hula and it was great. They then started the Ka Wa’a a luau and really made it better. The first time on Oahu in 2011 we did the Paradise Cove luau which was very touristy to say the meat and the food was alright. The Aulani luau feels more authentic and the food is hands down better quality- think 4 star restaurant Hawaiian food! The show can’t be beat and the pre show activities are perfect. Spring for the premium tickets for better seating, earlier access and the free foto.

Definitely a good family experience. The dancers and storytelling is first rate. They do a good job of showcasing the history of local Hawaiians. Although you are not seated directly around the stage area, they have areas throughout that dancers rotate through so no matter where you are sitting you will have a good view. Food was perhaps the best I’ve had at a luau – bento box style but it is a lot of food. The servers are on top of everything and know what you need before you can even ask. Free drinks. Absolutely recommended.

We booked the Luau at Aulani for convenience since we were staying on property and it’s easier with the children. The pre dinner activities were great for the kids. The story telling of the Aulani story and Maui and Ewa area was great for the kids. Definitely Disney caliber storytelling. Great (short) guest appearances by Mickey and Minnie. Deducted a star as I wanted more traditional Hawaiian foods in the buffet like I had at the Old Laihaina Luau before like the vermicelli and lau lau. The only traditional foods were the taro, poke and kalua pork.

First Luau experience for me and hubby and we were blown away! Each party gets their own table, several courses of food, highlighting traditional Hawaiian items, unlimited cocktails, very friendly waiters, service was quick, they had allergy friendly menu options, and sooo much food we couldn’t finish. The luau lasted around 2.5 hours and it was beautiful! It was emotional and pretty and had a fire show! It highlighted the origins of Hawaii and their beliefs and was an extraordinary experience. Would absolutely recommend

Ditto to the gentleman below this review. Huge, huge Disney fan here who traveled all the way from Florida looking forward to this experience since booking in March (it’s now September and this trip was not cheap). In spite of clear skies on the forecast for the evening, due to rain THREE hours before luau check in, Aulani decided to cancel with no accommodation. I am surprised considering Disney is known for its customer service that there was no back up, no effort to seat at their fine dining Mahiki restaurant. Nothing. The worst part is there are no shows on Sunday and Monday. If I was a local I would have likely shrugged this off but considering how far we traveled I am big time disappointed. Thank goodness the Four Seasons accommodated for their luau tomorrow.
