This is a nice place in the Heathman Hotel. It wasn’t too crowded and we had excellent service. My steak was very good and properly cooked and my wife got the chicken which was also delicious. Give them a try to support restaurants and bars in downtown portland.

Went during the Mercury’s Portland Burger Week ($8 burgers!) and everything was great! Due to the popularity of the burger week, it was busy in the restaurant. However, the service was still fast and friendly! Hosts and servers were kind and pleasant and treated guests well. They had nearly run out of burgers when I arrived but the staff was honest and transparent and helpful. Everything was ready very quickly and everyone interesting with me was very kind. The food was very tasty, and I would definitely come back to try other menu items in the future!

The Tavern is an excellent stylish restaurant with a contemporary decor that serves delicious farm to table food. The service also is awesome (thank you, Reece and Brian, for the great suggestions for food-drink pairings at the bar!). I am a frequent traveler for work and fun. My experience is that hotels very often have very generic restaurants and bars. The Tavern at the Heathman Hotel is an exception. I am glad I stayed at the Heathman Hotel, a super nice place, and was able to discover this awesome restaurant. This is a great hotel-restaurant match!

This place has a great atmosphere and an attentive staff, but it couldn’t make up for how terrible the food was. It may have been a fluke but the kitchen was “behind” so we waited about 45 minutes for our appetizers. We ordered the shrimp crudo and they served it to us without the shrimp. The waiter fixed it, but we had to ask where the shrimp was…. We ordered the Japanese milk bread and it was fine in flavor but a tiny piece of bread for $12. The “roasted” chicken was like nothing I’ve ever seen. It appeared to have been boiled (?!) because I don’t know how else you would achieve it’s weird, rubbery, almost gelatinous texture. It was served with about a tablespoon of farro and a few beans. I didn’t taste the risotto but I was appalled at how small it was. Couldn’t be more than 1/2 cup of cooked risotto on the plate and one small piece of crab. The beet salad was tasty except for the greens that they put on top – they charred them which I’m sure some people like, but for me it just tasted so much like a grill that it was inedible. I feel bad to leave such a bad review but all the previous reviews being so positive made us try it and I wish we hadn’t.

Had a fantastic dining experience here. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared them. I recommend this approach. So many delicious things. The cocktails didn’t disappoint either.
