South of the Clouds Menu – Brighton, MA

Type : Chinese noodle restaurant

Location : Brighton, MA

Established in 2017.

South of the Clouds was founded in 2017 by Patrick & Yisha. The husband & wife duo saw the opportunity to enter the noodle joint market due to the absence of authentic Yunnan rice noodles in Boston. The food Yisha misses dearly from her hometown in Dali, Yunnan China.

Yunnan, a province in Southwestern China that is renowned for their ethnic minority culture and food that has yet to expand globally across the western hemisphere. Patrick & Yisha always felt Boston foodies are being shortchanged when it comes to type of noodles that are offered here. Typically the only noodles that comes to mind are Pho, or Ramen.

Yunnan cuisine, particularly broth-filled bowls of rice noodles, in a no-frills dining room. Based on 158 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price $

The noodles here are so delicious, everything is fresh and also fast. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s a cozy , very clean space. Parking behind the building in a municipal lot. Everything we got was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back, I’m dreaming of those noodles.

I have literally been dining at this place at least once per week for the past 3 months. I have been always satisfied with their food and staffs, everything went great and I nearly tried everything on their menu. Until today, I was paying for my meal, then I realized this old male chef kept standing behind me. told him I was about to type my security code since I did not bring my wallet so I have to type my credit card info. I asked him to stop standing behind me and keep some distance since after I turned around, I saw he was directly looking at the screen. What he said was a shock. He told me to just hide it from him and covered the screen with my hand. I was not so sure but I heard him cursing me in Cantonese afterward cause I was speaking mandarin to him. I really did run out of word for such a rude and annoying service provider that I have never met in my whole life. If you can let this happen ever again, I would better suggest you to close this shop. Seriously. I am making g this stamens that I never fabricate a single piece of what happened today. So you need some more work to do definitely to stop losing regular customers.

This food is so good it made me swoon like a cartoon character after the first bite. I can’t put my finger on how to describe the taste of the gravy noodles, my go-to, but it’s just impeccable. Add to this the best small-shop atmosphere and it’s just a total home run. Go here; six stars.

I have found little meat pieces in my vegetarian fried rice noodles. A very unpleasant experience.

Yunnan cuisine is spicy but less greasy and more veggies than Szechuan cuisine. Very friendly staff. Authentic feel and taste

Beef noodle soup was very good . Fresh, delicious noodles, well seasoned and tender beef, fresh bok choy and spring onion. Pretty standard no frilled service. Large portion.

Excited to have this place in Brighton center, looking forward to coming back. Very hearty noodle soups with flavorful meat (can vouch for the braised beef and braised pork noodle bowls)
