Okkon, a pop-up run by Sachi and Satoshi Kamimae, specializes in okonomiyaki, a flavorful cabbage pancake that is hugely popular in Japan. Each okonomiyaki is made to order, its texture as fluffy as the best American pancakes. You can also customize with ingredients like spicy cod roe, stretchy mochi and organic mushrooms. Satoshi makes almost every element from scratch, including the laborious sweet-and-savory brown sauce that tops the pancake. Recently, the pop-up settled down at Oakland incubator Forage Kitchen, which provides beer and outdoor seating.

The food is amazing I immediately want to go back after our visit! Came from 70 miles away just to try it and it was absolutely worth it. Had the basic okonomiyaki with cheese and mochi, best thing our group ordered (everything was great though!) Makes me miss Japan so much, can’t wait to be back. The staff are also so friendly and patient, I hope they stay around forever ❤️
